The Clayton City Council will meet Tuesday night with a relatively light agenda highlighted by several items that could impact residents. Among the biggest decisions, the council will consider placing a measure on the November ballot to extend the city’s Landscape and Maintenance District through June 30, 2037, while also updating the assessment formula. If approved, Clayton voters will have the final say this fall.
The council is also expected to award a $2.38 million contract to Concord-based Bay Cities Paving and Grading for the city’s 2026 Neighborhood Street Rehabilitation Program, which will fund paving and related street improvements throughout Clayton. In addition, councilmembers will interview four candidates and appoint three of them to the Planning Commission for two-year terms ending in 2028. Other agenda items include annual assessment hearings, routine contract extensions for tree trimming, weed abatement and HVAC maintenance services, and updates from the city manager and councilmembers.
Assessments, taxes, bonds, etc. – they’re never temporary – once in the get built-in to the budget and expectations – when will people learn?
Until they actually do the work in all of the assessment Districts that they are supposed to do instead of deferring, complaining about lack of staffing, and buying a bunch of vehicles so they can individually drive around AND they actually act like they care and get results (for example, the weeds that are all around the City, filth that is the fountain, the clogged storm drains and v-ditches etc.) – then I am a hard NO! – But their reserves and benefit plans are stout.
I sure hope that paving company is not the same one that did the latest “improvements”
