The candidate filing period for the Nov. 3, 2026, General Election begins Monday, July 13, with nomination papers available for candidates seeking local office throughout Contra Costa County.
Candidates have until 5 p.m. on Aug. 7 to file their nomination papers. If an eligible incumbent does not file by the deadline, the filing period for that office will be extended until 5 p.m. on Aug. 12. The extension does not apply to offices where incumbents are term-limited.
Nomination papers for county and special district offices are available at the Contra Costa County Elections Office, 555 Escobar St. in Martinez. Candidates for municipal offices must obtain their paperwork from the city clerk in the city they are seeking to represent.
A list of offices expected to appear on the November ballot is available on the Contra Costa County Elections website, though officials note the list may change as additional resolutions are filed.
Appointments are recommended for candidates filing paperwork and can be scheduled by emailing candidate.services@vote.cccounty.us or calling 925-335-7800. Walk-ins are accepted based on staff availability.
