sorry I have to disagree… This is the best place if you can look past the politics (ruining everything) and the stupid people to see we have everything. Unfortunately the politics rule and living here is increasingly difficult, so sad to wreck a good thing. Never the less it is tough to find a better place.
My opinion only.

The good- weather-while not always ideal, especially during the summer heat waves, it’s pretty dang good year round compared to States that have ruthless humidity, hurricanes, tornadoes, daily lightning, 8 months of snow and ice etc.The services- Police, Fire and EMS within minutes if you need them. Some great hospitals if you need specialists or in need of a Trauma Center. The geography- It’s not flat and boring. Access to a multitude of recreation opportunities. Quite a bit to like but also quite a bit not to like but are any of the good things worth the high price? To some yes and to others no. I don’t think there is only one thing to justify the high price.
It is not my favorite place, a little too heavy on traditional steaks, potatoes etc. However, it was the favorite place of my platonic best friend who passed away. His company would have their Christmas party there, and several times he invited me as his date (still platonic), we would also go with a couple of friends at times. My friend passed away 6 years ago, a few times his best friend have invited me for lunch there in memory of our friend. So. although not my favorite place, it has special memory for me. And even if the food is not my favorite it is still good.
I didn’t say I didn’t like it, I just said it was not my favorite, but I certainly liked it, especially the private Christmas Party. I never complain if someone else is paying for the meal.

Being near family … cause if they were not here, there would be nothing in this state to stay for because unfortunate as it may be, our current political environment is squashing the desire to stay.

The weather–and health care is great –with great hospitals and specialist close by in the bay area.
Living here….although it is starting to wear thin.
Restaurants
Free outdoot live musics
Art and wine festivals
Car shows
Hiking trails
It’s getting really hard to come up with something
The weather. That’s it.

I never expect women to like BBQ, they’re all so picky & fussy… even the best isn’t ever enough.
