China Paradise Restaurant in Danville has reopened after being temporarily shut down by Contra Costa County health inspectors over a cockroach infestation.
The restaurant, located at 3446 Camino Tassajara, Suite C4, was ordered to close on July 10 after a customer reported finding a cockroach in a bowl of soup. During the complaint investigation, inspectors found four live cockroaches in the kitchen and several dead cockroaches in multiple areas of the restaurant.
According to the inspection report, live cockroaches were found on the cook line near the wok, on the floor by the warewashing area, and inside the kitchen hood. Dead cockroaches were discovered near the food prep sink, under a microwave, in the dry storage area, and along a wall in the dining room. The restaurant owner told inspectors they were aware of the problem and had been working with a pest control company, but could not provide the most recent pest control report.
Health officials immediately suspended the restaurant’s permit and required the business to eliminate the infestation, thoroughly clean and sanitize the facility, discard any contaminated food, seal pest entry points, and provide documentation of pest control treatment before reopening.
Following a reinspection, Contra Costa Environmental Health determined the required corrections had been made and authorized China Paradise to resume operations.
It seems to be that a lot of these restaurant closures occur with Asian/Chinese restaurants. I have observed this by the restaurants being shut down and reported here on claycord.com. I would say at least 70-80% of the “Dirty Dining” & “Behind the Kitchen Door” reports over the last 5 years have involved these types of restaurants and much of it has been cockroaches and/or rats.
