San Francisco Approves Cannabis Cafes With Food, Drinks And Live Entertainment

San Francisco is on track to become the first city in the Bay Area to allow cannabis cafes where customers can smoke or vape while enjoying food, drinks and live entertainment. The Board of Supervisors approved the ordinance Tuesday, and it now heads to Mayor Daniel Lurie for his signature. The new rules would let existing licensed cannabis businesses apply for permits to serve food and beverages for onsite consumption. Traditional restaurants, bars and cafes would not be allowed to sell cannabis. The move follows a 2024 state law that authorized cities to permit cannabis cafes while adding workplace health protections. Alcohol will not be allowed at the lounges. For the first year, only existing cannabis businesses will be eligible to apply for the new permits, giving dispensaries an opportunity to expand after years of economic challenges.
