The U.S. House of Representatives this week passed the Sunshine Protection Act in a 308-117 vote, a measure that would make daylight saving time permanent nationwide and end the twice-annual clock changes. The legislation now heads to the Senate, where it faces an uncertain future, despite strong backing from President Donald Trump.

But is depending on Senate approval – not a done deal … personally I’d prefer to going with Standard Time all year but if that wouldn’t pass I’d be ok with Daylight Savings time all year – just stop the 2x yearly change!
I have been supporting permanent DST for many years. Tom Cotton has promised to block it in the Senate. I wonder what his price is.
Yes to permanent to Standard Time, … no to Daylight savings time.

Getting them up on dark morning for school is a pain.
Going to bed before a school night when it’s light out, … another pain.
I don’t sleep much anyway, but kids need their sleep.

States already have the option to be on permanent standard time as Arizona and Hawaii currently are, as well as the U.S. territories of Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa, and the Northern Mariana Islands.

The last time that we were on permanent Daylight Saving Time during the Nixon-Ford Administration it only lasted a couple of years.
I don’t care, I have better ways to occupy my time than to muse over such triviality.

Why does the government think it can manipulate time?
Focus on what matters. As an elected official, their duty is to act in the best interest of the constituents: uphold the Constitution, laws, ensure efficient and transparent use of public resources, and place ethical duties above private gain.
Makes you wonder which corporations are funding this and what they stand to gain.
The Chamber of Commerce is behind it. Instead of going home an hour earlier they want you to shop with all extra money you have these days. 😎
Permeant DST was attempted in 1974, it lasted less than a year.
Not to mention this bill would only expand states’ options with regard to DST observation, not be a universal repeal.
The only thing wrong with Daylight Saving Time as it’s currently implemented is that it starts a month too early and ends a month too late. If we’re to stick to a single time standard year aroung, it should be Standard Time. Noon should be the time when the sun is highest in the sky.
