Crews are cleaning up a homeless encampment today beneath the Interstate 680 and Highway 242 interchange.
The creek corridor stretching from Monument Blvd. to Highway 4 has been the site of numerous homeless encampments over the years. It has also been the scene of hundreds of vegetation and debris fires, most of which have required responses from the Contra Costa Fire Protection District. Those recurring fires have raised ongoing concerns about public safety, environmental impacts, and the risk to nearby homes, businesses, and motorists traveling through the area.
It’s about time!!! I work right off Commerce and this has been an ongoing issue that the city and county have done squat about for years. Clean this filth up, help those that want it and jail those that refuse to be a part of society. This should not be a burden for the tax payers to deal with. The elected leaders have done this on purpose vote them out!
County/City/State Highways Div. — should at least tell the rest of us where they moved them to…(gave a wink and a nod and told the micro-leader of a good clean spot.)
We may live close to the next human-methane, crank stink, burn & smoke zone!
Another asinine solution that lacks common sense, and logical reasoning.
Forcing the homeless out of an area does not solve the problem.
Displacing the homeless from their campsite will only cause them to move
elsewhere and establish another campsite where they will continue to build fires,
and indulge in criminal activities.

The U.S. used to have Poor Farms where indigent people could live and work for their own sustenance, maybe learn a trade and work their way up and out; Mental Asylums & Hospitals
where truly ill (and the addicted) might find wellness.

Democrats decided (while Republicans went “Ho-Hum, please pass the foie gras” ) that
the rest of us, we citizens who voluntarily worked to eat…and pay taxes…should feed the lazy
as well as the crazy, and treat them with respect…and then pay some more… with their true
goal: ———to employ more bloat-gutted bureaucracy abusers.

This cleanup only temporarily takes care of the problem in this location, but also moves this problem to a new location for the public to deal with.

Either force the homeless into the homeless shelter, set up a government run homeless camp with necessary facilities where the homeless can stay, force them into drug and/or mental health treatment, or arrest and jail them.
Why does something always have to have to happen for them to get going the fire couldve been prevented
I pass this “camp” quite often while on the Iron Horse Trail. It gets cleaned up, and then they move back in. Then the camp gets bigger with more tents, tarps, furniture, and solar panels. In another year they get thrown out again and the cycle repeats.
Put them to work cleaning up their mess and surrounding areas. If they have to keep cleaning up maybe they won’t make such a mess!
About time … this time keep it cleaned up and patrol to keep compliant
Kick them out and they more to a different location, months later you do the same thing. Keep kicking the can down the road, it will never stop.

Insist that Concord follow the laws. We are tired of paying for food, shelters while also paying janitor service for people to be able to sleep in every little brush-stand they can find.
Not only that but the situation is clearly used as a slush fund because it gets worse no matter how much money is thrown at it! It is the same people elected in year after year that have created a situation that is obviously corruptable and a cash machine. Vote these parasites out of office, elections are coming up and remember this when you vote!

While the City of Concord doesn’t do and hasn’t done what’s necessary to put an end to homeless encampments in Concord, this particular location is likely a state issue, as I believe this is Caltrans property, and Caltrans has been worse than the City of Concord when it comes to dealing with homeless encampments.
