Drivers who use southbound Interstate 680 through Pleasant Hill should prepare for overnight delays beginning next week as Caltrans starts repairs on a section of the freeway damaged by winter storms. Starting Monday, July 20, Caltrans will close the right shoulder along with the two right lanes on southbound I-680 between Willow Pass Road and the Monument Boulevard off-ramp. The Willow Pass Road on-ramp to southbound I-680 will also be closed during construction hours. The overnight closures will take place Monday through Saturday from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. and are expected to continue through Friday, Sept. 4, although the completion date is tentative. According to Caltrans, the project is needed after storm damage caused pavement settlement, erosion of the embankment, and damage to the highway’s drainage system.
The first phase of the project will use compaction grouting to stabilize the roadway foundation beneath the settled pavement. Additional work will include pavement repairs, dike replacement, drainage system repairs, slope reconstruction and stabilization, and permanent erosion control improvements. Motorists are encouraged to allow extra travel time, use alternate routes when possible, and slow down when traveling through the construction zone.
I am all for them fixing the road (they do a great job) but “storm damage?” thank god we don’t have these quality roads in Mississippi or Florida where there is actual weather..
How about North bound 680 between monument blvd on ramp and Willow Pass exit. On the right side??
