The Water Cooler – Today’s Question – What’s your opinion on mobile surveillance trailers in shopping center parking lots?

It’s unfortunate that they’re needed!
.
I’d like to know what information these mobile surveillance trailers are collecting, what’s being done with the information collected, and what entities the information is being shared with.
.
The mobile surveillance trailers that were placed near my home seemed to be used mostly to chase off the homeless up to no good.
.
I live 24 houses away from a shopping center where these mobile surveillance trailers were being used, they’re way too loud when they go off all night long with the voice broadcasting out of them trying to chase someone off. For this reason I’d prefer security guards over the trailers.

I think they should have bollards or at least 4 bright orange safety cones around them so that careless drivers might notice them.

I don’t think Thieves care… I think they are there to pacify the shopper into feeling safe. My opinion only

I don’t imagine it does much of anything since the DA doesn’t prosecute.

Will these recognize me when I arrive in the parking lot and text me a coupon for that day to my mobile phone? That’d be awesome! Thieves don’t care, they put on a hat and maybe a mask.

Invasion of what little privacy we have left – but due to the problem, hire security guards that have some real authority or even off duty police

no reaonable expectation of privacy in a puclic setting such the parking lot of a public shopping center

Don’t care.

It’s not a deterrent because it’s not threatening looking. Maybe put some gun turrets on top or something that looks like a sawed off shotgun, but of course don’t put any real guns up there. Just put something up there to make criminals think twice, even a face of a Swat guy looking at time. Or a mean pic of Satan. Anything to make them question what theyre doing. A pic of Jesus? As it is now, it just looks like scaffolding. It has no psychological effect.

For the camera, it has already helped solve crimes. Bad guys don’t see it or think the cam is too far away but it recorded everything and the video footage is shown in court as evidence.
