I have too much respect for my cardiovascular system to eat fast foods.
Things to keep in mind, high sodium intake can cause dehydration, and
increase blood pressure. A diet high in fats, especially saturated fats can
increase triglycerides and bad cholesterol levels which can take a toll on
the heart, thereby increasing the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
While I was working in the medical field, I saw the blood of patients with
high levels of triglycerides, and the serum literally looked like bacon grease.
In a healthy person, blood serum should be a clear straw-colored fluid.
Seeing it firsthand, forever changed my eating habits.
Starbucks, the Bacon and Gouda egg sandwich is pretty good. The day when I had to rush out and didn’t have time for breakfast before a long drive, I stopped at Starbucks and this time I ordered a Scrambled egg and bacon wrap, big mistake, the wrap itself was dry, I couldn’t finish it. I don’t know if it was that location, I was in Benicia and went to the Starbucks on Military West next to Safeway. I will not order that again. Whenever I visit my daughter in Pasadena, when I drive back to the Bay Area I usually stop in Santa Clarita (45 minutes from Pasadena) for breakfast. There’s a Denny’s and IHOP, I’ve eaten at both, can’t really tell if one is better than the other. I usually order the 2 eggs medium over, with bacon, hashbrowns and an English Muffin, hard to screw that up. I guess Denny’s and IHOP are not fast food, just a chain.

If I was truly desperate for a quick bite to eat in the morning I’d stop at a donut shop and get a ham & cheese croissant.
Most of the D-shops make those or something similar, that and a cup of coffee will tide me over…. oh! those apple fritters look good, toss one in the bag too, and a chocolate old fashioned please! and that’s it.

The Mexican Phone Company used to but no more. Most places don’t open until 6 anyway, misses my commute.
We have enough diners that I rarely do fast food, but I do like a Sonic breakfast burrito with tater tots if I’m in a hurry. When traveling, I like Waffle House for something quick, or Cracker Barrel if I have time.
Sugar Plum in Concord has a great breakfast. Last time I went there, a few years ago, I had the same as I usually order at Denny’s and IHOP, but Sugar Plum’s was better, especially the hash browns.
I used to take my son to Chick’s Donuts in Park-n-Shop on the weekends for corn beef hash and a doughnut. Yum! I also stopped at the Little Donut House in Concord to pick up something for the guys on my way into work on Fridays.

Totally agree about the breakfast at Sugar Plum. The last time I was there, I had their country potatoes which have onions and bell peppers. I seldom eat potatoes, but those were really good.
I love potatoes, my dad was a Gardener,, his main crop was potatoes. He grew several varieties. In May we would get new potatoes, very small, firm and tasty, very thin skin, you don’t need to peel them. You can leave the skin on, or brush it off with a brush
Served boiled with butter and fresh parsley they melt on your tongue.
A few years back I had an outrageous breakfast sandwich at Mountain Grounds in Martinez. The coffee was great too! I hope they’ve kept up the great work.
A couple more places here in Martinez that I’ve had breakfast at is Bagel Street Cafe in the Muir Station center and Alhambra Donut & Deli. Bagel Street had a wide variety of freshly baked bagels and bagel sandwiches. Donut and Deli’s specialty was big croissants both for breakfast sandwiches and when I asked why so many it was because they had a large lunch trade for croissant sandwiches. Both have coffee and espresso.

I don’t go to breakfast-on-the-run anymore, but if you ever get the chance… dunk a Wendy’s egg-cheese muffin in a cup of her chili. It’ll get you through the whole day.

Slightly off-topic, but here goes:
I’m a big fan of hash browns and it disappoints me that good hash browns are hard to find in the local diners / breakfast places.
In some places, the oil is reused too often (or it’s just bad oil) and this gives an almost rancid taste to the hash browns. In others, the potatoes are under- or over-cooked. I have noticed this even at higher-end locations.
Last weekend I found the best hash browns that I’ve had in at least a year. This was at Sugar Plum on Colfax Street in downtown Concord. I went there again a couple of says later and they were still good, so there’s consistency there. They tasted good and they were cooked perfectly.
I highly recommend this venerable local restaurant!
imo – none are worth the money & I’ve tried most of them
Chic N donuts at the Parn N shop they restaurant been there for over 50 years and love it
Cheers!

Chick Fil A hands down!

Those sound wonderful, skins and all. 🙂

I totally agree, see my reply to Cowellian. Since I went a few years ago and you went a recently it is same to assume that they are very consistent.
For years, I have heard good things about Sugar Plum. I’ve never been there,
but I know where it is, and one of these days I’ll have to check it out.
None. Eating at home is much better and healthier than eating mega-corporate industrial factory produced food.
Home town places like the Sugar Plum, Chics, Copper Skillet are great.
None. If in Concord the Sugar Plum or Chick’s are the places to go
In Carson City it’s the Cracker Box, which in a way reminds me of the Sugar Plum
