Bay Area health officials are urging parents and international travelers to follow vaccination guidelines to prevent measles infections over the summer as the United States grapples with a sharp increase in measles outbreaks that began in 2025. Measles is a highly contagious viral disease; in a room where one person is infected, nine out of 10 unvaccinated people will contract the disease. Symptoms can include fever, cough, runny nose, conjunctivitis, and a rash of flat, red spots. In 2025, the U.S. reported 2,289 measles cases, a tally higher than the combined total for the previous 25 years. This year, there have already been 2,260 confirmed infections.

Taking diseases like this off the schedule was just a recipie for an outbreak when more people from other countries pile into the country with no innoculation! But let’s make sure to get that Covid shot right!

Are you sure that measles was taken off of the vaccine schedule? I thought it was just the combination measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella vaccine that was taken off of the vaccine schedule, but the non-combination vaccines remained on the vaccination schedule.
I had measles, mumps, and chickenpox as a young kid, long before the vaccines became available. I can’t forget how awful they were. Kids were lucky when the vaccines became available. It’s a shame that so many parents are keeping their kids unvaccinated and vulnerable to these diseases.
It’s not the parents who are taking the vaccines off the schedule put the blame where it belongs on the shoulders of the elected officials. Children have to be in accordance with the vaccine schedule or the child cannot attend school. Parents cannot electively opt out of the shots if they want their child to attend school. This has only become a problem since 2020 and I wonder why? 🤔
It is sad the head of HHS is a lawyer and not a doctor. This is exacerbated by his personal anti-vaccine beliefs that are not based on science. The result is children getting sick that do not need to be.

The states set the vaccine schedules for school enrollment, not the parents, although the states also set what qualifies for an exemption. In California, it’s extremely difficult to qualify for an exemption.
