There’s two. 1. YVR & Bancroft – despite what the city traffic engineer repeatedly says its way out of time with traffic / cross traffic – any time of day. 2. Oak Grove & Treat – prepare a snack for the wait at the signal, any direction, any time of day.
Agreed oak grove & Treat is a break from your day, you have time to watch a few tik toks on your phone. Dont lie a lot of you watch stuff on your phone while at a red light.
If you’re behind the wheel and your vehicle is running, you’re not supposed to be doing anything on your phone.
Two worst intersections in Concord, arguably the county.
I’ve seen relationships that ended in less time than some of those red lights.
Since you asked, and I KNOW I’ll be getting a lot of thumbs down.
I would eliminate as many 4 way stops and turn them into traffic circles; there’s absolutely no point in stopping for no traffic. I would also eliminate traffic lights at intersections where there are 2 lanes or less and build traffic circles instead. Anything over 3 lanes will continue to have traffic lights. Traffic circles become useless at some point and traffic lights work better as is the opposite case. We should have a mixed model.
Traffic circles work great, once you understand them and get used to them. I’ve driven several thousand miles in Europe the last 4 years and really like them. The most challenging one was the 3 lanes around the Arc de Triomphe in Paris during rush hour; I made it through though.
I agree. The problem is many people do not know how to rive through them. Student need at least driver education in a classroom.
The biggest problems with traffic circles are idiots who won’t use them properly. Anyone who treats a yield sign as a stop sign should be given a gentle nudge to help them understand the process, and anyone who stops inside the circle should have their license and car impounded and shredded.
And may God help the poor fool who shows any hesitation or confusion with the Bourne Rotary between Cape Cod and Boston. If you get stuck on the inside lane without a plan, you’ll end up like Charlie on the MTA.
One (or even both) the lights on Clayton Rd at the entrance to St. Bonaventure Church.
Only reason they went up was a shakedown from the city when the church was looking to build a school onsite. $2M price tag (in 00’s dollars) which the church was forced to cover. Ended up having to scrap their plans as a result.
I don’t call for elimination, but I do call for the recalibration of the traffic light at Oak Grove and Treat. The City of Walnut Creek purposely has that light calibrated to discourage cut-through driving from Pittsburg to the 680/24 freeways. I get that, but it also penalizes those of us in Concord and Clayton who have no choice but to drive through that intersection during rush hour. Perhaps Concord can put up such a light on Kirker Pass at the Concord Pavilion?
