The Antioch City Council is expected to make a pivotal decision Tuesday night on whether to continue participating in the proposed Homekey+ CSH Mahogany Housing Project or withdraw from it altogether.
The project would convert the former Comfort Inn at 2436 Mahogany Way into permanent supportive housing through California’s Homekey+ program. According to project documents, the development would receive a $34.9 million state Homekey+ grant, including $27.5 million for acquisition and rehabilitation and approximately $7.4 million for operating costs.
City staff is asking the council to choose between two options. The first would reaffirm Antioch’s participation as a Homekey+ co-applicant, allowing staff to continue negotiations with the California Department of Housing and Community Development, California Supportive Housing and other project partners before executing the final agreements. Staff says they would continue seeking opportunities to reduce the city’s long-term financial commitments where possible. The second option would rescind the city’s previous authorization, notify the state that Antioch will not execute the Homekey+ agreement and withdraw from the project entirely.
The proposed housing would consist of 84 Homekey-funded units, including housing for people experiencing homelessness, veterans experiencing homelessness, and youth who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. The project would also include one manager’s unit. Referrals would be made through the county’s Coordinated Entry System and would prioritize individuals with the greatest housing and supportive service needs.
The Mahogany Housing proposal has been the subject of previous council discussions, and Tuesday’s meeting could determine whether the city moves ahead with the project or walks away from the state-funded development.
The Homekey+ project is scheduled as a regular business item during the Antioch City Council meeting, which begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall.

If it uses one dime of taxpayer money then it needs to go for Antioch citizen vote.
It’s not supportive housing.
It’s enabling housing.
Solution housing is what’s needed.
The Antioch City Council voted 3-1 to rescind state funding for this project.
All these programs like this, SNAP, EBT or any other Acronym you can think of only are put in place to money launder. They think that we are so dumb that they can keep demanding more tax dollar for the problems they enact and perpetuate to keep that fraud train chugging right along!
