A Bay Area congressman has introduced legislation aimed at making autonomous vehicles safer during emergencies by requiring companies to provide dedicated hotlines for first responders, emergency response guides and standardized safety procedures.
The bill, introduced by U.S. Rep. Kevin Mullin of San Mateo, would also require autonomous vehicles to quickly recognize emergency road closures and improve communication with local agencies. It follows several incidents in San Francisco where self-driving vehicles blocked emergency access, stalled during power outages or interfered with firefighters responding to emergencies. If approved, the legislation would establish nationwide standards for autonomous vehicle companies operating on public roads.
To be honest i would probably never ride one of these cant imagine there being an emergency and i’m stuck in a driverless car
Incentive, $95,000 fine for each time a self driving vehicle impedes a code 3 run
of an emergency response vehicle. Would get their attention.

Government will have their act together in 4 to 7 years, if we’re lucky.
They can equip fire trucks and other emergency vehicles with push bars.
Then they can push any autonomous vehicle that’s blocking traffic out of
the way, and send the owner a bill for the time wasted along with a citation
for any and all traffic violations.
We don’t need these autonomous vehicles!
