A guy goes to a museum to see a dinosaur bone exhibit. He walks around the galleries and is quite impressed by the reconstruction of these ancient animals – a T-rex, a triceratops and more. He sees a guy who works for the museum standing near one of them and says to him. “They’re quite a sight. How old are they anyhow?” The guy who works for the museum, says “This one, the T Rex, is 66 million years and six months old”. “Wow” the guy responds. “It is amazing that they can be that specific. How do you know?” “Well” the worker says. “He was 66 million years old six months ago and that’s when I started working here”.
Giants are only being shown on Apple TV tonight…. what kind of a crappy way is that to treat your fans?
The way the Giants are playing this year they have a hell of alot of nerve to try to force us to pay extra to watch them lose!
I had to subscribe to Apple TV to be able to watch Formula 1 for this and the 4 years after this season.
MLB GREED. It ticks off the fans, but it’s all about the money. I’m used to it with the A’s (Apple TV and Peacock) but I don’t like it either.

I am really enjoying farmer’s market season.
Yesterday I went to the Walnut Creek farmer’s market on Wiget Lane – it was a lot of fun!
There were many vendors, all very friendly, and lots of produce that doesn’t often make it to the supermarket. There were Chinese green beans about 18 inches long. Some of the yellow onions were huge – these usually are weeded out in the supermarket selection process – these are the ones that are made into onion powder, etc. There were jujubees (not the candy). There was local honey. All in all, a very pleasant experience! Glad you’re enjoying the farmer’s markets in Tennessee, Cowellian!
Two things. #1. My annual rant about how the local communities (WC, Concord, PH, etc.) aren’t taking Alameda County’s lead on removing “gasoline trees” – eucalyptus (CCC Fire Dept. term). Despite 5 yrs. of pointing out the extreme fire hazard – particularly in the hot summer – cities won’t commit to removal. Ex. WC staff for more than 5 yrs. keep saying they’re “developing a plan” for removal of a long string of eucalyptus tree along the CCC Trail at Boundary Oak (city property). If there were a fire all the embers and ash would blow over the nearby community with the Diablo winds that occur in the summer. Unfortunately CCC Fire won’t come out with an order or even recommendation for removal despite their public statements as to a fire hazard. Somebody getting paid off out there? #2. When its hot please be considerate of your puppy’s paws – I see people walking their dogs when its 95+ on asphalt, etc. It can get much hotter than the air temp and can burn the paws.
If the Oakland Hills fire had swept over the Caldicott, instead of staying on the Oakland side, Contra Costa might have a different attitude.
Went through the Oakland-Berkeley fire in 1991. Barely escaped with our lives. Unbearable heat, I was spitting up black gunk even with a bandanna on – couldn’t see, once the pitch black smoke cloud enveloped us; Car windows on the street below were exploding; glass breaking; I believe 25 people died in that fire. That night – house gone, hills glowing and flaming, we watched all the way from the Marina: tall, dry eucalyptus lighting up like exploding candles – calling them gasoline trees or gas bombs is spot on. Used to love their fragrance; used to love riding bike to school at Mt. Diablo Elementary, passing legacy eucalpyptus. After the Oakland fire…….meh. No thanks.

That weekend, I was camping with the Scouts on Lake Berryessa, and we could see the smoke from there. We lived in Cowell, but I was going in to Oakland on a regular basis and could see the devastation. Later, I was talking to one of the guys who had been in the command center, and if the fire had come across the Caldicott, they were unprepared to do anything between the tunnel and I-680.

Let’s face it, we were all thrill seekers on our bicycles when we were young. However among all the dangerous stunts we did, we never once challenged a car.
This week I had two different E bike kids in two different cities ride directly toward me and swerve out of my path at the last minute. Another one passed me on the left and then swerved in front of me into a driveway. All three were close, way too close. All three made the assumption I would slam on my brakes to avoid a collision. It’s interesting they would place so much trust in someone they don’t know.
Every gene pool has a shallow end, and these guys need water wings.
Forrest Gump had more sense.

That was the decade that movies broke away from Hollywood. There were lots of “location” movies done in other states and cities including Seattle where I lived at the time. Watched a scene for a John Frankenheimer film shot down the street. And one night I came home from work to see across the street had no parking signs up and then a bunch Ryder trucks parked there. Back then Ryder was more known for sound and film gear trucks. A two minute scene for a TV movie was being shot in the tavern across the street.

El Charro Dip
1/2 cup milk
8 oz butter, cubed & chilled
1 C (8 oz) crumbled bleu cheese
2 cloves garlic, pealed and rough chopped
place all ingredients except milk in a food processor and blend while drizzling the milk in, Place blended mix in a bowl, cover and chill at least 4 hours
Make 1 1/2 cups

A couple of weeks ago I posted about how I am seeing more broken-down cars by the roadside. After the computer chips came in, cars were more reliable and breakdowns were rare. Now, these cars are getting old and they can’t be fixed by shade-tree mechanics and they are starting to break down.
Lately, I am also seeing cars with their windows down on very hot days -their air conditioning is starting to go out, too. Maybe people can’t afford to take them to their mechanic any more.
If you’ve got an old car, keep it!
I recently said if your vehicle was running and you were behind the wheel, you’re not supposed to be doing anything with cell phones. Well, Kyle Shanahan, the head coach of the 49ers, was looking for his cell phone while driving and drove head-on into a lady in an SUV. The report blamed the woman in the SUV, which Shanahan had to correct, and he admitted it was his fault. In a nutshell, he was doing something illegal, caused a crash with injuries and major damage, and then got off with no charges. Pelosi was lying when she said nobody was above the law.
Maybe I am doing something wrong, but why is it so hard to locate the information for the cost of a pickup truckload of general garbage (not construction debris) to the dumps online? There must be a minimum cost ? Which landfill in better or cheaper in the area?
Geez… been awhile for me but I remember paying $35 for a little 1997 Toyota Tacoma with a full mixed load of junk, not stacked too high, just a normal sized load.
I believe that was the minimum charge.
Big sign at the entrance: “All loads must be covered with a tarp”… I don’t know what difference that makes after you’re already there.
I think I read there is a surcharge imposed on vehicles entering landfills with uncovered or unsecured loads (aka ‘tarp fee’)
Call your city or garbage company about extra free pickup. Here in Clayton we call
garbage company, they will want description of items an they’ll give you a date to set
your stuff at the curb.
