A Spare the Air Alert is in effect through Friday due to smoke from the Woodside Fire burning along the Sonoma County coast, air district officials said Thursday evening.
Air quality is expected to be in the unhealthy for sensitive groups to very unhealthy range on the U.S. EPA’s Air Quality Index in the North Bay, according to the Bay Area Air District.
The fire has burned 75 acres and was first reported about1:45 p.m. Thursday in the 24000 block of Highway 1 in Timber Cove, according to Cal Fire.
Evacuation orders and a warning have gone out for zones near the fire and temporary evacuation shelter has been opened at Laguna High School (formerly El Molino) at 7050 Covey Road in Forestville, according to the county.
While the air alert is in effect, it’s illegal for Bay Area residents and businesses to use their fireplaces, wood stoves, pellet stoves, outdoor fire pits or any other wood-burning devices.
The district will monitor ar quality throughout the region for smoke impacts from the fire, and the public can check their local air quality on the U.S. EPA’s Fire and Smoke Map at https://fire.airnow.gov/.
