As Temperatures Rise, Pet Owners Urged To Protect Dogs From Scorching Pavement

If the sidewalk or asphalt feels hot to your hand, it’s way too hot for your dog’s paws. On hot days, concrete and blacktop can reach temperatures high enough to cause painful burns in just minutes. If you need to walk your dog, try going early in the morning or after the sun goes down. Better yet, stick to grass or shaded areas whenever possible. A good rule of thumb: Place the back of your hand on the pavement for 7 seconds. If it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for your dog. Let’s keep our four-legged friends safe this summer.
