If you use the Contra Costa Canal Trail, expect a detour for the next couple of days. A section of the trail between Oak Park Boulevard and Boyd Road in Pleasant Hill is closed through 5 p.m. Tuesday while crews replace the pavement. The closure affects one of the busiest stretches of the trail used by walkers, runners and cyclists. The East Bay Regional Park District said the work is part of ongoing maintenance and improvements along the Contra Costa Canal Trail. Additional brief closures may occur elsewhere on the trail later this year as the Contra Costa Water District continues its annual maintenance program.

I’m pretty sure dust blows into the canal and has been ever since it was built. I remember when there was a bunch of kids that drowned in the canals on the reg before they built the fencing around it. But the dust don’t think that has ever been a problem.

That water’s not clean anyway – it has to go through the treatment plant before it goes out to the consumer. The dust will be filtered out.
Exactly plus dust has blowing into the water since the canal was made so obviously they have to filter it before distribution to household. I was working on my mom’s fence and drank out of the garden hose, first time in over 5 decades taste the same as it did in the 70’s!
Worried about dust?! What about all the wild life that poops in the water? Not to mention
the human element.
Well if they get good at paving these little trails maybe then they can work their way up to paving roads.
I wonder what criteria they use to determine which pathway would get replacement or repaired. I know of several places where the trail pathway is very poor and has been for years.

If the East Bay Regional Park District operates like many cities in Contra Costa County, then it’s based on when the trails were last repaved.
When I was a kid an old canal cop wrote me up for being near the canal (I was in an orchard on my bike) when I pointed out that I wasn’t on canal property he made me sit in the back of his car and said he was taking me to “Juvie” (he didn’t).
If that old fart was alive today he’d probably have a friggin heart attack seeing walkers, runners and cyclists all over his road.
