Should be 3 months – say mid June to mid Sept. …. unless we got to year round classes like some places do – then it’s half days… classes AM… free in the afternoon…. but then schooling from home – student progress dictates scheduling.
Absolutely!! Teachers “Unions” have RUINED it with all of their days off/minimum days etc.
Anom – A lot of those holidays and extended holidays are because parents took their children somewhere and were not attending school. Not because of the teachers. Some are because of the teachers but not all. Thanksgiving was extended because parents took students out of town.
I think year around school would be good. They get shorter breaks but more of them. Also, get rid of block scheduling.
Absolutely! Let them be kids for a few months. Whether they’re traveling, playing with their friends, etc. kids have the rest of their lives to be responsible year around. They deserve a three-month break from school.
Yes! What is up with school starting in the middle of summer?
I just checked the other day (traffic sucks in the afternoon when school gets let out) and the high school by my house starts on Aug. 18th. I have a late Aug birthday and school always started 2-3 weeks after that when I was a kid.
There is no need to do that the time is already there just stop the early release and the weird extra day off randomly during the week. Put this time back where it belongs for the summer break, so odd that they are going back before labor day these days.
Like it used to be? How long is it now? When I was in school, it was
about three months, which was plenty of time. If it’s shorter now then
sure, lengthen it a little. They’re only going to be young once, let them
enjoy their childhood while they can. The extra time off is a good time
to give their brains a little time to relax, which will help lower any stress
they may be experiencing. It will allow them time to take in new information
and to be exposed to fresh ideas. It also allows them time for extracurricular
activities, or to spend more quality time with their family and perhaps go on
a vacation with them. It’s important that during their formative years they
get to experience more of the outside world, where they can do things like
visit museums, or take on a part-time job which will give them a better
understanding of reality and how the world around them works.
A longer summer break means that I continue to dodge preteens and young male teens on their e-bikes at The Orchards Shopping Center in Walnut Creek and in downtown Clayton.
That shopping center is a disaster.
Heavy on stupid E bike kids, door dash guys double parking, and seniors driving their cars into the rain collection ditches, accidents are prolific. Not to mention the poorly engineered dual left turn lane merge from YVR to Viamonte.
An accident waiting to happen.
