Two children under 10 were allegedly driving a car in Oakland when they hit a pedestrian and sent her to the hospital with serious injuries Thursday morning, according to police. Officers were sent to the intersection of 35th and Mangels avenues in the city’s Allendale neighborhood at about 9:30 a.m. to investigate reports of a car hitting a pedestrian. When they got to the scene, officers found a 30-year-old woman who was crossing 35th Avenue in a crosswalk with her dog when she was hit by a car. The woman was taken to the hospital and listed in critical condition, police said. The driver, a child under 10 years old, and a passenger, also under 10, were also taken to the hospital and were both listed in stable condition. Police said kids were heading north on 35th Avenue when they allegedly ran into a car heading south, lost control and then ran into the woman. Officers contacted the children’s parents, who are cooperating with the investigation. Police officials said they didn’t yet know if alcohol or drugs were factors in the collision.

One–Children under the age of 14, in the absence of clear proof that at the time of committing the act charged against them, they knew its wrongfulness.
The ages of the drivers was 6 and 4 years. They are brothers.
A witness said the boys appeared to be using the steering wheel as the other worked the gas and break pedals according to KRON 4 news.
The boy’s Uncle said brothers took the car keys while their parents were sleeping.
The pedestrian, Kiara Bowling remains in critical condition where she is suffering from multiple brain bleeds. No word on the condition of her service dog, a Chow-Chow.

Who was watching these children? I’m from the generation when you left the house and had adventures and came home for dinner. Driving a car when we were under 10 wasn’t part of that. But, times have changed. Parents need to know where their children are and keep the car keys away from them. Is the dog OK?
I read that they were two boys, 4 and 7. One was steering the car, while the other one
worked the gas and brake peddles.
