Oakland Man Charged in Organized Theft Ring Linked To 35 Burglaries In Clayton Valley, Ygnacio Valley Area

An Oakland man has been charged with five felonies in connection with an organized theft ring linked to dozens of burglaries in Concord, according to the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office. The investigation began after roughly 35 burglaries were reported between April and July in the Ygnacio Valley and Clayton Valley areas of Concord. Police determined that a group of juveniles was allegedly responsible for the burglaries. The juvenile suspects were arrested by Richmond police in May in connection with vehicle thefts. Investigators later determined they were allegedly involved in a fencing operation led by 37-year-old Wuillian Cordova-Cubias of Oakland. Fencing operations involve buying stolen property and reselling it to others. On Aug. 5, officers from the Concord and Oakland police departments, along with the U.S. Marshals Service, served a search warrant at Cordova-Cubias’ Oakland residence. Authorities said they recovered numerous items of suspected stolen property, including at least 500 power tools. The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office filed five felony charges against Cordova-Cubias, including receiving stolen property, two counts involving stolen vehicles, unlawful firearm activity and conspiracy with juvenile suspects. The stolen property allegedly included power tools, survey equipment, pipe inspection equipment, a utility ATV and a forklift. The charges also include enhancements that could increase potential penalties if Cordova-Cubias is convicted. Cordova-Cubias remains in custody at the Martinez Detention Facility and is scheduled to be arraigned Aug. 10 at 1:30 p.m. in Contra Costa County Superior Court in Martinez.
