No …as a DMV Examiner I can tell you it’s not an issue of taking and passing a drive test – I see it all the time…. everybody can clean up their act to pass a drive test. It’s more of an everyday mind set to follow the traffic rules, common courtesy, etc. what we’re seeing in today’s poor driving habits imo – is the “me first” self entitlement culture growing so much these days.
How long have you been a DMV Examiner? Do you think it was more beneficial to teach a standard driving curriculum in high school as opposed to private? I think it should absolutely be brought back and re-instituted in high school again.
Absolutely agree – bring back Driver’s Ed & Driver’s Training ….do I think it will happen? No … it was a dumb budget cutting decision .. imo
I beleve that since driving is privilidge, the terms for licnesing should be on a scale of how well one dirves.
If you have no tickets, retake the test less freguently.
If you have 10 tickets or a major accitent, you should retake the test yearly.
Varliables should be considered.
10 points?!? You are significantly more lenient that the California Department of Motor Vehicles.
A moving violation is one point, a major moving violation like DUI, Reckless, Hit and Run is 2 points.
For a non-commercial driver license, you get 4 points in 12 months, 6 points in 24 months or 8 points in a 36 month period and your license is suspended or revoked by Administrative action of the DMV.
Moving violation points stay on your record for 3 years. Major moving violations stay on your record for 10 years.
Just enforce the laws.
No “hardship” excuses, no preferential treatment for certain demographics.
DWI should be 1 year suspension, 2 plus doubled fines for the second, revocation for #3
Enough is enough
No, not the driving test, it would create a backlog and longer wait
times at the DMV. The driving test in of itself does not improve bad
behavior, such as DUI, speeding, or defiance and road rage. There
would also be a substantial increase in taxes and DMV fees needed
to pay for improving the infrastructure, and for the hiring of more
testing officers. The written test however is a different story. Every
year new laws are added, and some laws are modified. A good way
to have drivers keep up with them is to have the written test more often.
People pass the written test 100% then go out and drive like idiots…. see it all the time
No!!! The DMV is already a mess, this sort of requirement would be catastrophic for the DMV and residents of California, unless residents want taxes and fees to increase in order to hire more government employees to administer these tests. Just because someone can pass a test doesn’t mean they’ll drive or travel in that manner the next day.
There’s a test?
Everyone except me, sounds good.
That’s a lot of wasted time testing experienced drivers who would have no problem passing the test, it’s just hassle in both directions. If you really want deal with the problem of aging, then maybe retests should be mandatory after a certain age. I think over 70 you have to renew in person every five years: that could come with a behind-the-wheel test, seems reasonable. But I don’t know if it is the best way to handle the issue.
Only if they have driving infractions.
