One person was killed and another injured in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday night in Concord. The head-on collision happened around 8:40 p.m. near Willow Pass Road and Port Chicago Highway. When emergency crews arrived, they found both vehicles with significant damage and one occupant trapped. Crews freed the trapped person and performed CPR, but the victim died at the scene. I live in the building that overlooks this intersection. I heard the impact and started observing the scene starting a few seconds after it happened.
Piecing together the position and angles of the car along with what the commenters on the previous post observed, here’s what I think happened: a white car ran a red light on Port Chicago Highway (one-way, headed north) and t-boned a blue car that was headed east on Willow Pass. Simultaneously, a red car was headed west on Willow Pass. Based on the visual impact and the fatality, the blue and red cars must have been going at or above the limit. The t-bone pushed the blue car directly into the path of the red car, causing a high-speed head-on collision while minimally damaging the white car.
This resulted in the red car being launched north and through the fence into the vacant lot.The blue car driver was stretchered off without urgency, while the red car driver apparently deceased on impact or shortly thereafter. The yellow tarp just south of the red car was covering the deceased victim.
Incredibly tragic and eerie. Eight squad cars, four firetrucks, two ambulances…caution tape, police drone, roads closed a block in all directions, and most heartbreaking of all, the grieving family/friends on the sidewalk nearby.
Wow, did you report that to the police sound like you were the witness of this accident?
I saw the exact same thing I saw a white car run the red light which tboned the blue into the red car. The white care fleed off
I was there that night on the intersection on my way home. Actually live in a different city, but I was there because I applied to NorCal ambulance and I wanted to drive around the city to get familiar with the roads. When the accident happened. I remember seeing a white vehicle leaving the scene after hitting the blue Prius, which made him lose control and collided with the red car. I believe it was green light going towards port Chicago. I don’t really remember but I do remember i was about to take a left on Willow Pass Road on a green light, but I was on port Chicago road when it happened. My condolences to the victims that didn’t make it and other victim who got injured. It’s unfortunate but I definitely witnessed a hit-and-run. I wish I would have took the white vehicle license plate. I lost track where the white vehicle went, everything happened so fast. I’m assume the white vehicle that left the scene took the freeway close by or parked he’s car near by somewhere. I’m looking at the comments and I see people saying the driver was driving 80 mph. It was more like 45 maybe 50 mph, when they both hit each other as a head on collision. I should have stayed, but I left because I didn’t wanna get stuck in traffic. I hope they catch that white vehicle the left the scene on the intersection.
