A California bill would impose a 50% tax on companies operating for-profit immigration detention centers in the state, with the revenue going toward legal services for immigrant communities. Assembly Bill 1633, authored by Assemblymember Matt Haney, D-San Francisco, comes amid scrutiny of conditions at California detention facilities, including the Adelanto ICE Processing Center in San Bernardino County, where four detainees died between September 2025 and March 2026. A state review released in May found problems at Adelanto involving food, drinking water and access to healthcare. The facility is operated by The GEO Group. AB 1633 has passed the Assembly and is awaiting a vote in the state Senate. Several Bay Area lawmakers are co-authors of the bill.

I’m sorry to say folks, but the democrats in California- actually nationwide- have lost their minds! They support every freak, every fringe and every criminal and illegal sneek-in, while working against you, the hard-working tax paying, law abiding citizen!
We need to boot them out of office ASAP
They don’t want the State to build or maintain facilities and employ residents to ensure our laws are carried out to protecting the citizen taxpayers by punishing the lawbreakers! So, their crooked-man way of thinking is to boost State income by putting a pecuniary penalty on the private companies we hire to (supposedly) do the job for us.
I’m telling you. We are as sick as the people the Dems put in office in California, if we don’t stand up on our own feet and fix that problem very soon.
I’m willing to bet that these detention centers are probably operated better & more efficiently than State run ones. Just look at the County jail in Martinez………one death per month is Unacceptable.
Simply solution, ship detainees out of California to be held,
and the tax accomplishes nothing. Typical knee jerk stupidity
democrat politicians of state legislature are famous for.

Maybe I just read that wrong, but if not…. They want to impose a tax on incompetency? But they don’t want immigrants to be detained anyway? Right? What?
If passed and signed into law, we can expect Washington, D.C. to retaliate by taking away funding for something and we can then expect the private detention facilities to either move out of state or move to federal property within California where the State of California lacks jurisdiction over these businesses.
And the Feds should! – I got an idea though use the mothball fleet as a way station – probably can’t tax this as they are Fed maritime facilities and would be an incentive for self-deportation! Or we could just fill them up and cast them out! Our state legislators more about illegals than us and it has to stop!

Unfortunately, we don’t have much of a Mothball Fleet left, but I do know of a mothballed floating prison in Louisiana that could be towed to California, federalized by President Trump, docked at a federal facility in California, and leased to private detention facilities companies.
