Invasive Mosquitoes Found In Brentwood After Previous Infestations In Concord, Martinez

The Contra Costa Mosquito and Vector Control District has confirmed invasive Aedes aegypti mosquitoes have been found in Brentwood. The daytime-biting mosquitoes were initially discovered after a resident requested service. Additional trapping in the area found more of the mosquitoes, prompting the District to expand surveillance to determine how far they have spread. Aedes aegypti can transmit diseases including Zika, dengue, yellow fever and chikungunya. The mosquitoes breed in small amounts of standing water commonly found in bird baths, plant saucers, buckets, pools and other containers. Residents are urged to dump standing water around their properties and report daytime-biting mosquitoes to the District at 925-685-9301. The District previously eliminated infestations in Martinez and Concord, while the mosquitoes have been more difficult to control in Antioch.
