Antioch police are investigating after an incendiary device was reportedly thrown at a home in the Lake Alhambra area Monday morning. Officers responded around 10:11 a.m. on Aug. 17 after the device, preliminarily believed to be a large firework, exploded and caused minor property damage. No injuries were reported. The Walnut Creek Police Department Bomb Squad assisted at the scene. Investigators are reviewing surveillance video, interviewing witnesses and pursuing several leads. No suspect has been identified. Police said the residence has been connected to several incidents dating back to July, including one that recently gained significant attention on social media and resulted in a restraining order. In a separate incident involving another victim, a suspect was arrested on allegations of a civil rights violation and battery. Prosecutors later filed misdemeanor charges, and that case remains pending. Investigators are looking into whether Monday’s explosion is connected to the recent social media attention surrounding those incidents. Antioch police warned against retaliation or vigilante activity, saying threats, trespassing, property damage and violence could result in additional criminal charges.
