The Antioch Police Department is seeking City Council approval for a new automated license plate reader system that would include 55 fixed camera locations throughout the city. The Antioch City Council on Tuesday will consider a 49-month, $661,687 agreement with Axon Enterprise for automated license plate recognition technology, additional in-car camera systems and artificial intelligence tools for officers. Under the proposal, Antioch would install 38 Axon Outpost license plate reader locations beginning in 2026, followed by another 17 locations in 2027. The agreement would also provide six additional Axon Fleet 3 in-car video and mobile license plate reader systems for patrol vehicles and 120 Axon AI Assistant licenses. Antioch currently uses license plate reader systems from Motorola and Flock. According to the city, Motorola is discontinuing its ALPR platform, prompting the Police Department to propose consolidating and expanding its fixed-camera network through Axon. The AI Assistant technology would also allow officers using Axon Body 4 cameras to access real-time translation in more than 50 languages. Police policy restricts license plate reader information to legitimate law enforcement purposes and requires access to be logged and audited. The department’s policy also states ALPR data is not shared with federal or out-of-state agencies. Funding for the first year of the agreement has been identified within the Police Department’s existing General Fund budget. Future payments would be subject to the city’s annual budget process. The City Council is scheduled to consider the proposal during its Tuesday, Aug. 25 meeting.
Axon could end up being nation wide standard, because of comprehensive
approach they’ve taken to serve law enforcement and it’s data handling.

YEAH!!! Antioch needs them.. Criminals are against them because they work so well.
Antioch needs all the cameras they can get to deter crime and catch criminals.
I’m Not a fan of FLOCK, BUT – Antioch is a disaster. Gutted and castrated police dept over NONSENSE. On the fast track to becoming the next: Stockton, Vallejo, Oakland if they don’t get a handle on things.
PS: Hwy 4 – It should not be quarterly that we hear about someone pulled over for driving 100+mph when it’s a DAILY OCCURENCE!

As we knew would happen, the Antioch City Council approved the Axon cameras and will be getting rid of their Flock cameras. The Axon cameras are just as bad as Flock cameras. It’s only a matter of time before the courts find these cameras unconstitutional given the rulings in similar cases. It can’t happen soon enough!!!
