The Concord City Council, sitting as the Local Reuse Authority, will consider approving a security contract worth up to $1.05 million for the former Concord Naval Weapons Station. The proposed agreement with Guardian Security Agency would provide security guard services at the former military base through June 30, 2029. The $1.05 million maximum includes $900,000 for estimated security needs, including additional weekend and after-hours coverage, along with another $150,000 that could be used if additional services are needed. The agreement would also include options for three additional one-year extensions at up to $350,000 per year. If all of the extensions are used, the total value of the contract could reach $2.1 million. Funding for the security services would be provided by GoMentum Station, according to the city. The contract is on the consent calendar for the City Council’s Tuesday, Aug. 25 meeting, which begins at 6:30 p.m. at Concord City Hall.

That is a lot of money to watch over mostly empty land.

Likely unnecessary, but it will be approved. That noise is the giant sucking sound of our tax dollars going down the drain.
There is a liability component to allowing such a large property to be unsupervised. Makes more sense to use drones/cameras than paying a security guard to sleep in a shack over the course of 3 years for over a million dollars. What a joke!

Concord screws up the Lennar/FivePoint development deal and now residents are paying for security services on land that could now have 13,000 homes. 13,000 badly needed homes that would have added supply to a market overpriced by demand.
Let’s see how they do with Brookfield.

Had that horrible deal with Lennar/Five Point continued, there still wouldn’t be one home built on the former Concord Naval Weapons Station property today, because none of the land had been cleaned up and was ready to be transferred to the City of Concord and no deal between the City of Concord and the Navy for payment of the land had been agreed upon, it’s taken until now for the payment agreement and the first transfer of land to even be ready.

For 2 decades the Concord City Council has told residents that this development is going to increase home prices in Concord, not decrease home prices. As construction begins you can expect to see a mass exodus of long-term Concord residents wanting to escape the coming traffic nightmare and changing city that’s being forced on us all. If this development had been put on the ballot for voters to decide then nothing would be built on this property.
