Wasn’t it previously Hop Sing’s Kitchen?
We went to the Chinese Kitchen there in El Monte Shopping Center back in the 1960s when I was a kid! It’s still called that.
( did they possibly change the name sometime in between)

OK. I’m thinking of the restaurant that was on the southside of Clayton Road across the street from the El Monte Shopping Center. It was in one of the storefronts on the west end of one of the buildings where it had a sign painted on the westside of the building.
Across from Chestnut Square shopping center that has Ray’s Hideaway Barbershop and KING’S DONUTS. Chestnut Avenue meets Clayton Road has a stop light.

Driving outbound on south side of Clayton Road you’ll see Clayton Furniture.
Next set of buildings is The Chinese Kitchen. Sign on building got painted over.

I think The Chinese Kitchen may have taken over the space once occupied by Hop Sings Kitchen when they moved to Pacheco.
It was Slow Hand in Pleasant Hill. Looking forward to the post-fire opening, Q1 2027.

I love teriyaki and sushi in downtown concord. Great sushi rolls.
Cali Kid Burger. Better than In N Out and no hour long lines.

My most recent go to restaurant in San Francisco is “FINO” it an Italian restaurant at Union Square very nice restaurant I go there every 5 months or so anytime I go to SF.
for Walnut Creek I like the La Sin Bistro Restaurant it is the French restaurant.
I love the Las Pancho Mexican restaurant at the BART terminal shopping center I had been going there for 20 years.
Ed’s in downtown Clayton. 5 min walk from the house, so convenient.
Fiore, between Lucky’s and the empty Kmart if we want something a little more upscale.
I heard Fiore is great.
If you want something more upscale than Ed’s Mudville Grill try Moresi’s Chophouse (that’s Ed’s too).
There are a number of fond restaurants but that was years ago. They weren’t that expensive even for dinner out with relatives. My relatives are great fans of trying different restaurants and often becoming friends with the owners. Again that was sadly another time now ruined by inappropriate as well economically ignorant minimum wage increases as if they never even computer modeled what happens when you do that.
Used to Pasta Primavera, but it got nasty and expensive about 5 years ago. Still trying to recover.

I don’t go out to eat a lot in the Concord area (and now I move to Lake County). When my friend on Clayton Way was alive he liked Back 40, and another one of friends like the place also. So, we would go there once in awhile when we wanted to eat out. His company had their Christmas party there and he invited me to come along a few times (he was a platonic friend, but we did a lot together). Usually when I eat out it is with girlfriends, one live in Petaluma and the other in Windsor, so most of the time we meet, in Napa, Sonoma, Novato or Petaluma. There’s a restaurant in Petaluma that I have met either of my girlfriends there. Stockhome (at take on Stockholm) the owners are Swedish or at least one of them. Their food is not all Scandinavian, but some have a Scandinavian bend, they have a Shrimp, Avocado sandwich that is great, that is usually the one I get. I lived in Benicia for almost 10 years and I really like Sailor Jacks, they have a great view of the Carquinez Bridge and the food is good. Even after moving to Concord I go there, a few times alone (on my birthday) and recently with a friend.

Since you moved to Lake County.
I did, it was rather sudden. My back problems got worse, retail involves a lot standing and bending. I was renting and my lease was up. I looked at rents in the Concord/Martinez area and it wasn’t too appealing. I had enough in my 401K to be able to buy a small place for cash in Lucerne in Lake County, not right on the lake but close. I love the slower pace of life up here. I have spent many summer weekend since 1984 up here, since the Scandinavian Club own a cabin there. Some of my friends from the Club have moved up here as well. And I’m only a couple of hours away from the Bay Area. Having said that I kind of miss Macy, especially my co-workers and most of my customers as well. Thank you for asking.

Mangia Bene has THE BEST Calamari on a polenta base! Great menu overall.
Either Casa Orinda in Orinda or Va Da Vi in Walnut Creek.

Togo’s is my “go to” place… but I’m kind of dyslexic.
As for a more upscale meal I’ll go to Zephyr Grill & Bar in Brentwood.
Cap’s and Locanda Capri are great too.
