A Concord native and Clayton Valley High School graduate is paralyzed after breaking his neck while trying to rescue two children caught in a rip current at a Southern California beach. Josh Collette, 42, a father of five and experienced swimmer and surfer, jumped into the ocean Aug. 15 at Riviera Beach in San Clemente after seeing two children being pulled out by the current. Collette dove into the water but struck a wall of sand headfirst. Bystanders pulled Collette from the water, and his wife performed mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Doctors later determined he had broken two vertebrae and severely damaged his spinal cord. He currently has no feeling below his shoulders. The two children made it safely out of the water. Despite his injuries, Collette said he would make the same decision again if someone needed help. While the wacko libs are donating money to defend Luigi Mangione as
their hero, there are true heros like Mr Collette that are more deserving
of donations. In cases like this, the government should step in and foot
the bill, and maybe give a little extra to take care of the wife and kids too.
The government should pay for this? The government doesn’t create wealth or its own funds, so why should taxpayers be forced pay for the bill for someone diving headfirst into a sand bar, plus extra for the wife and kids, under threat of loss or property or imprisonment, when said action didn’t actually contribute to the saving of these two children?
I understand where you’re coming from on opinion. But I’d like to remind you that a huge percentage of the money flowing into our clinics, hospitals and county health
is being swallowed up by people who do not contribute a cent to their own care.
The money is taken from us without our permission or guidance on who should
benefit.
No one hates taxes more than I do. But give me a choice of who gets some of my money…between a young father supporting his young family and loving to surf, and
a fire starter psycho living under an overpass just so he can crank himself up >> ?
Don’t get your panties all in a twist, it’s only my opinion. I understand it
will never happen, but when the government gives billions in foreign aid,
and throws away billions more on illegal invaders and failed homeless
projects, you decide to whine about a few $100,000 going to a man who
risked his life in an attempt to save two children, and as a result is
paralyzed from the shoulders down.
The GoFundMe has raised close to $400K, including several $10K and $5K contributions, which is very uncommon. If taxpayers want to help this family, they can. It’s absurd to think the government should get involved. He chose to help these two kids, and sadly it didn’t go well. I’m thankful the kids made it safely out of the water.

I saw this in my youtube feed and chose not to “thumbs up” or even comment. The whole situation is sad all around. Sure, anyone to comment about not diving in head first into unknown waters……….but like I said – it’s just sad. Hope the man can recover from this.
I mean …. SUPER DUPER hot take here. But this should have not happened at all. Putting your well being at high risk for strangers, knowing you have 5 kids depending on you, is a crazy gamble. Not your kids not your problem. Sad all around.
