The Concord City Council on Tuesday approved a new $1.05 million contract to provide security at the former Concord Naval Weapons Station as the massive property continues to await redevelopment. The council voted 4-0 to approve a three-year contract with Concord-based Guardian Security Agency, which has provided security at the site for the past decade. Councilmember Pablo Benavente was absent. The contract, which runs through June 2029, covers security at the Willow Pass and Bailey Road entrances. Guardian was selected from nine bidders.
GoMentum Station, an autonomous vehicle testing facility operated at the site by the Contra Costa Transportation Authority, will reimburse the city for the security costs, meaning Concord’s General Fund will not be affected. The 12,800-acre former weapons station closed in 1999 and has been targeted for redevelopment since 2006. In May, the city approved an agreement with the U.S. Navy allowing developer Brookfield Properties to move forward with planning for a project that calls for 12,272 homes, including about 3,000 affordable units. City officials have said Brookfield’s specific development plan could come before the council in summer 2029, with the full build-out expected to take about 30 years.

Security? what security issues have occurred? did I miss something?
Tresspassers in the old buildings south of the 4FWY are a common occurence there. Most of the old structures are constantly being vandalized for copper and stuff like that.

the structures that are on the south siide along Willow Pass Rd, north of the 4 abuts the golf course and MOTCO’s civilian police/security still patrols that area and has limited camera surveilance in that area, but vandalism still occurs there

The Concord City Council has already discussed the need for the city to again raise the sales tax rate because the city is running a structural deficit. If things are really that bad then they should’ve led by example and never should’ve voted themselves a pay raise.
Somebody please explain to me why Concord residents are footing the bill for security.
1) Has the Nave turned all the acres over as clean and ready to build?
2) How much $$ are Concord Residents making off of the County’s deal with Go Mentum?
I admit I lost interest and confidence in the whole Seal Beach BS years ago. But I am getting tired of another tax-screw every time I do look at it.
The security appears to only be for employees of the automakers who are entering and exiting the property for work to test self-driving cars. The good news is that the City of Concord is being reimbursed by the Contra Costa Transportation Authority, but the bad news is that the Contra Costa Transportation Authority is reinbursing the City of Concord with taxpayer funds.

The City of Concord doesn’t make a dime off of GoMentum Station because the property doesn’t belong to the City of Concord.
