Concord resident John Benny Gomez was sentenced to 70 years to life in state prison after he was found guilty of nine felonies, including the molestation of a female victim under the age of 10, according to the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office.

The criminal conduct by Gomez also included forcible oral copulation and showing the victim pornographic images on his phone, the DA’s office said.

The criminal conduct occurred in January 2018 at a residence in Concord. The defendant was in a position of trust with the victim we he committed the attack in a remote location at the residence.

A mandated reporter at the victim’s school conveyed the attack to authorities, which promoted a criminal investigation, according to the DA’s office.

“The victim in this case is an innocent young girl. She did not ask for this. She was incredibly brave during this entire process. The defendant continues to this very day to not show any remorse or admit any responsibility for the horrific crimes he committed. I also want to express my deep appreciation for the jury in this case. The jurors heard ample evidence that the defendant was the sole person responsible for his criminal conduct,” said Deputy District Attorney Diana Weiss.

I hope they’re finally cracking down on sex offenders. The courts have been way too lenient for too long.

Concord mom August 20, 2019 - 9:50 AM - 9:50 AM

It’s not the courts. It’s the legislators, governor, and voters. DA and prosecutor did their job here, the judge ruled an appropriate sentence, but this guy will be out thanks to our early release programs.

The longer he rots in jail the better but if he shot her dead in a drive by he would maybe get twenty years. The justice system makes no sense.

Once convicted of pedophilia the sentence should automatically be the death penalty which should be carried out immediately.

No endless appeals, no stay’s by the Gov.

No leniency for anyone who harms children.

@Concord mom. It is the DA too . She decides which cases she wants to try.
I am so glad this child got justice and they actually tried him. My daughter was not so lucky. This same DA did not try her case against 3 cv girls and 1 boy even though there was video and pictures of the attack.
I wish this child love and hugs with the long journey of mental recovery ahead.

Finally!! A sentence that fits the crime. Maybe he will get a taste of his own medicine again and again.

Cowellian August 20, 2019 - 11:41 AM - 11:41 AM

I hope it’s a short life sentence!

Don’t let your guard down. That site is not so current. Plugged my name in and it says I still live at my previous home. That was 13 years ago. Glad he is off the streets for good. There is a special place for people like him.

Clayton Black glove August 20, 2019 - 6:01 PM - 6:01 PM

This person will burn in hell!! No child should go through this. Maybe rap his head around a millstone and cast him to the sea. Our generation has gotten so soft and sympathy for the devil its sickening to hear this.
