Contra Costa County Plans To Distribute 1 Million COVID-19 Vaccine Doses By July 4

Contra Costa County officials announced their goal Friday to distribute 1 million coronavirus vaccine doses by the Fourth of July.

More than 65,000 doses of coronavirus vaccine have been administered in the county since Dec. 15, according to county Supervisor Diane Burgis. On average, 5,800 doses are being administered per day.

“We really need everyone, that includes the state and federal government, to do their part,” county Health Officer and Contra Costa Health Services director Anna Roth said Friday during a briefing to announce the distribution goal.

“We have no more than a five-day supply on hand at any given time,” she added. “We are moving the vaccine as quickly as we get it.”

The 1 million doses will not equate exactly to 1 million of the county’s residents vaccinated, Roth said, since the two available vaccines on the market – those developed by Pfizer and Moderna – require two shots to take full effect.

A vaccine in development by the medical and pharmaceutical corporation Johnson and Johnson would only require one dose instead of two, but that vaccine may not be available until the spring.

County officials have yet to set up a mass-vaccination site such as those in San Francisco and Los Angeles counties, taking the approach of operating smaller vaccine clinics.

Dr. Ori Tzvieli, the county’s deputy health officer and COVID-19 operations chief, said Contra Costa County would need between 5,000 and 10,000 doses of vaccine on top of the 12,000 it is currently receiving weekly to operate a mass-vaccination site.

However, county officials are interested in doing so once those doses are available, he said.

“It’s hard to ramp up production quickly, I think people do need to be patient,” Tzvieli said. “But I think that by springtime, we’ll see a lot more vaccine coming our way, and as soon as it comes through we’ll get it into arms.”

I DO NOT CONSENT TO THIS VACCINE OR ANY OTHER VACCINE.

I DO NOT CONSENT TO MASK WEARING

I DO NOT CONSENT TO SOCIAL DISTANCING

I DO NOT CONSENT TO THIS SCAMDEMIC

ALL OF THIS FOR A VIRUS THAT WILL 99% NOT KILL YOU.

THINK. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, PEOPLE. THINK!

JJ January 22, 2021 - 6:20 PM - 6:20 PM

Please take off the ALL CAPS you don’t need to yell.

But do you know what has killed over 400,000 people, and counting?
If you have any friends or family, I am sure they have been touched in some way by COVID-19. If not, please consider other people who have lost friends and family members to COVID-19.

Think, before you write.

Oh, please January 22, 2021 - 7:34 PM - 7:34 PM

JJ- And I wonder how many of those deaths are actually from COVID and not pneumonia, flu, or something more insidious like cancer, but hey they ALSO tested positive for COVID, so count that! The CDC admitted to this, so that 400k deaths? Not accurate at all.

Kauai Mike January 22, 2021 - 3:48 PM - 3:48 PM

Sounds like the feds and state need to step up and get that vaccine moving to local health providers – and yes, to the large scale vaccination sites!

Why yes, it totally said that it’s one million doses for the entire state, and california has an equal population to each other state.
Sarcasm, by the way.
Hope you recover from your lobotomy pal.

Palermo January 22, 2021 - 3:53 PM - 3:53 PM

Only a five day supply on hand? That’s our answer. Absolutely pathetic. I hope I am still alive by the time they finally get to my age group

Oh, please January 22, 2021 - 7:35 PM - 7:35 PM

You’ll be fine. Just about 99.99% of people are just fine.

So I had a shot on the counties My Chart the other day and they gave me a date to make an appointment for the second shot however even though at the time I wrote down my user name and password they don’t work and there is no way to get it fixed on line and they don’t answer the phone. You can have all of this tech crap. Things used to get done well without it.

Senior January 23, 2021 - 8:19 AM - 8:19 AM

Hello,
I’d suggest go back about three weeks after your first shot and act like you know it’s the correct date/time. At best, they’ll give you your second shot. At worst, they will tell you ‘Your second appointment is on …’
Since 40 percent of people aren’t showing up for their second shot, my guess is they give you the inoculation.
Good luck and best wishes.

Ricardoh January 23, 2021 - 1:17 PM - 1:17 PM

Thanks Senior
One problem I could run into doing though is when I got there for the shot they had all the paperwork with my name on it ready for me to sign. I may do what you suggest though if this doesn’t get squared away.

Why can’t the President order all Pharmaceutical company’s to work together and share information to make all the vaccine’s that is needed?

All the squabble over equity of distribution, meanwhile the state is coming in 50th place.

Do not take the potentially very dangerous experimental mRNA vaccines. You’re in more danger driving to get the shot than you are from COVID.

Alex Berenson on Twitter is a great resource for accurate information on the adverse reactions to these vaccines.

In you want to reach master level on the supposed pandemic, check out Jon Rappoport. He knows where all the bodies are buried when it comes to the FDA, Fauci, and that whole corrupt gang running Big Pharma.

JAFO January 22, 2021 - 7:05 PM - 7:05 PM

@ LL Cool J: In your free time, you might want to do a little research on the societal benefits over the decades resulting from vaccination programs. A few that come to mind are smallpox, diphtheria, tetanus, measles, mumps, rubella, and polio. It’s by no means a complete list. It’s undisputed evidence of how many millions of people around the world have been saved as a result of vaccination programs. We can all be grateful that your enlightened attitude has not been tightly held by very many people over the years. “All of this for a virus that will 99% not kill you.” Tell that to the relatives and friends of the 400,000 people in this country alone that have already succumbed to what you so glibly describe as a “scamdemic.”

BORbeliever January 22, 2021 - 7:06 PM - 7:06 PM

Personally I’m holding out for the J&J vaccine. Hopefully we will have that option (we have Kaiser).

anon January 22, 2021 - 9:53 PM - 9:53 PM

Where is Kaiser? I haven’t heard anything from them about the Covid vaccine.

The Observer January 22, 2021 - 8:38 PM - 8:38 PM

The County finally updated its vaccine dashboard. They are reporting that 10.7% of Walnut Creek residents have gotten their first shot. Only 3.6% in Richmond, which has been especially hard hit. Hopefully, the numbers will start to even out as shots move to the lower tiers.

Led January 23, 2021 - 9:47 AM - 9:47 AM

Walnut Creek, with 70K people has two hospitals; Richmond, with 110K, has one, I think. So more medical staff in WC per capita.

But the bigger factor is that WC has 30% of the population over 65 years of age. Richmond, 13.4%. A much, much bigger percentage of the city’s population are eligible to receive the vaccine in WC compared to Richmond.

Given that, I think the city-to-city differences will moderate as the age tiers open up.

Led January 22, 2021 - 9:24 PM - 9:24 PM

You know, at this pace it would really REALLY make sense to advise people who had a confirmed case of Covid already to wait a few months to get vaccinated. Or people with a high accuracy positive antibody test. In a sane world the tiers would have been encouraged to have an antibody test before the vaccine is offered to their tier. You’ve got good immunity right now if you had it, almost certainly. We would make faster progress towards herd immunity if twenty percent of the vaccines weren’t going to people who don’t urgently need it, because they already have natural immunity and we know that it lasts for months. They can still get vaccinated of they want to, but just encourage them to wait, because they are protected for now already.

Alan January 22, 2021 - 11:13 PM - 11:13 PM

Or, you could just smile and live life and not worry about getting sick.

Listen to you go on and on! Details, details. Try to relax, get a little exercise, get a lot of fresh air, eat right and get plenty of sleep. All this obsessing about illness is a good way to get yourself sick.

At this point, worrying about COVID is much more dangerous than actually getting sick with it.

Led January 23, 2021 - 9:42 AM - 9:42 AM

I’m not worried about Covid for myself or my family, I’m tired of half of society being shut down. If we’re waiting until widespread vaccination to reopen things, as apparently we are, then we could at least do it efficiently!

But also, a significant number of people are at risk from this virus, and getting a vaccine to them quickly rather than slowly is a good thing, in my book.

Kirkwood January 23, 2021 - 11:42 AM - 11:42 AM

My local Safeway announced by email that they soon will be offering COVUS vaccinations at their pharmacy Do businesses like Safeway or CVS charge for shots or are they free? Since Kaiser is hemming and hawing it might be expedient to look elsewhere.
