The Contra Costa Clerk-Recorder-Elections Facility will be dedicated as the Stephen L. Weir Building on Monday.

The Contra Costa Board of Supervisors and County Clerk-Recorder Debi Cooper will host a ceremony in front of the building beginning at 11 a.m. The event is open to the public.

Weir was county clerk-recorder and registrar of voters for over two decades. He was first to implement e-commerce, offer credit card payments, use digital imaging for public records, and commissioned the current building which opened to the public in 2007.

“The Clerk-Recorder- Elections Department continues the customer and voter-centric focus Steve instilled during his tenure,” Cooper said. “He is a mentor and a friend and I cannot imagine a more fitting tribute to his legacy than dedicating the Clerk- Recorder-Elections facility in his name.”

Weir’s public service career spanned decades. He served as a Concord City Council member and mayor, a member of the Contra Costa Water District, a member of the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, and staff member to the late Assemblyman and Senator Dan Boatwright.

“There is not a more fitting legacy than to name the Clerk-Recorder facility after a public servant like Steve Weir,” Contra Costa Board of Supervisors chair Diane Burgis said. “His career was distinguished by a reputation for integrity, dedication, diligence, sincerity, and professionalism.

The ceremony can also be viewed live via Contra Costa television.

Good for Steve.

He deserves this.

I met Steve Weir once. I thought he was a solid dude.

A more deserving public servant is not to be found. Years ago, I made my first political contribution to Steve’s campaign, running for County Clerk, and haven’t made one since, and I’ve never regretted it. His terms in office never saw a hint of corruption, unlike his successor, and I wholeheartedly agree with the decision to name the building for him. I do have a concern though, about his health; he hasn’t been seen at Safeway in a long time. You OK, Steve?

Thanks for the comment. I have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. It really trims one’s sail.

Lifelong Officials are fond of honoring their own. The board of supervisors has already planned this special ceremony. Howerever, In this case i think they should also consider sharing this honor with the nameless citizens who make our government work. Call these anonymous, John Doe. Let the new facility be named the Weir/Doe building

Steve Weir’s a straight-up guy – I’m happy they’re honouring him in this way.

Was that a Freudian slip? LOL

Should be named for the taxpayers who are paying for it. Naming a building after a career politician is just dumb and divisive.

Kauai Mike October 4, 2021 - 12:53 AM - 12:53 AM

BINGO! ALL government is theft.

ConcordRes2 October 4, 2021 - 7:56 AM - 7:56 AM

I had several meetings with Steve to go over Title company recordings. He always took the time to meet with me was easy to reach by phone and was just a solid guy. This is a well deserved honor.

and lala kamala gets the sny yet again

maybe a bridge or overpass for her is better

you would think that a vp would be a better figure

or at least have one achievement to be known for

or have made a difference for a politician along the way

she is the vp and this state will not recognize her

will not as pelosi is in the news hourly

forced equity for us but not for dems

rise up lala be a vp of history and not a dem tool

Paul October 4, 2021 - 12:28 PM - 12:28 PM

Don’t know the guy seems better than most from what I’ve heard. In 20 years someone will dig up one tweet that wasn’t a big deal and they will change the name.

Pete V. October 4, 2021 - 12:50 PM - 12:50 PM

I don’t care how “solid” he may have been, dude skated along his entire career “working” in government and I’m supposed to so impressed as to name a building after him? GTHO.

RANDOM TASK October 4, 2021 - 12:58 PM - 12:58 PM

Well all the comments seem gracious
For a guy doing his job well and performing his duties

A shock as most if not all civil servants and dems and don’t care about you or doing their jobs fairly or equally or even admirably

Most are corrupt to serve unions and or politicians

Why a voter sees dems as good for anything
but stealing money and allowing you to legally sue someone if they don’t refer to you as a elm tree
That you declared yourself as that morning

You don’t need laws to be yourself
You don’t need fake racism and equity jargon
Thrown at people to get your point across

When you act respectful
People see you…. for who you are

Beating them with looks and stares and frowns and screams
Because a dem politician tells you too
Is wrong
and achieves nothing
but isolating you more
from others actually accepting you

Burning torches and brandishing pitchforks
To get your point across
only leads to being
Tyrants

You have to listen
To learn

Calling someone racist and then brandishing a political gun

Does not do anything….. but make YOU look the fool

Don’t let your selfish outcry
destroy the only country who will love you for who you are

FREEDOM DIES FROM WITHIN

All those County employees sure are stuck on themselves, aren’t they?

Addlepate October 5, 2021 - 7:21 AM - 7:21 AM

I only read the headline. Let me guess, Weir is a former government employee.
