The woman was a passenger in the vehicle, which was headed in the northbound direction near High School Avenue when it hit a light pole about 1:45 a.m., according to a release from police.

1:45AM on Halloween night? I wonder when the driver’s tox results will come in.

Ricardoh November 1, 2021 - 10:12 AM - 10:12 AM

1:45 AM. Would there be a witness? One that was coherent?

Economy car? IIRC, back in the 70s, if a big American car hit a pole like that, the pole would fold like a toothpick. Same with power poles. Other than a very large tree, palm trees were the most dangerous to hit.

It was on the news this morning. The car looked absolutely demolished. So sorry for the woman’s family.

There’s a trend here this week: Horrible accidents on Port Chicago highway around the 1:00 a.m. hour. I’m going to stay clear!
Actually we never drive out after about 12:00 midnight. The road is full of drunks

Bub November 1, 2021 - 12:38 PM - 12:38 PM

On Saturday evening around 8:00pm on the corner of Monument and Oak Grove (4 corners area) behind Best Burgers, there was also a horrible accident that I have not heard or seen anything about. When I drove by, all emergency vehicles were on the scene but the whole front end of one car (never seen the other car) was GONE or pushed into the cab. As I proceeded down Monument another ambulance was coming Code 3. Hey Claycord, what’s the story on that crash?
SLOW DOWN People!!! There is nothing that warrants the speed that everyone thinks they need to be going. And WHY so much road rage?

Robert November 1, 2021 - 2:54 PM - 2:54 PM

Actually Bub, they did cover the Four Corners crash.

Cellophane November 1, 2021 - 11:36 AM - 11:36 AM

It looks to me more like the car hit a pole that was adjacent to the Bart pillar and the Bart pillar stopped the car from going any further.

That was no 35 MPH crash.

It’s time the bleeding hearts stand up and demand

that lawful drivers be harshly punished in order for

illegal drivers to speed freely.

Hanne Jeppesen November 1, 2021 - 1:07 PM - 1:07 PM

Cellophane, Don’t you think linking bleeding hearts to traffic accidents is a bit of a strech. Any reasonable thinking person, is against the following: speeders, red light runners, driving under the influence. What exactly is an illegal driver? If you are driving on a suspended license, driving under the influence etc, you are an unlawful driver, and hopefully the police catches them and get them off the road.

Alcohol, Speed, Drugs, Distracted and or all the above?

Aunt Barbara November 1, 2021 - 12:20 PM - 12:20 PM

Thanks for your diagnosis. The family of those involved surely appreciates it.

hanne jeppesen November 1, 2021 - 1:08 PM - 1:08 PM

Could be a medical emergency, but most likely Chris is right.

Phil November 1, 2021 - 6:01 PM - 6:01 PM

Auntie:
I guess you missed the class on the use of punctuation. Chris used.a question mark to create an interogative sentence, not a declarative one. I, too, questioned why this accident and loss of life occurred. The cause determines, at least for me, whether I feel sorry for the victims or use them as an example of dangerous behavior.

My daughter and I were the first people to see this. My daughter called 911. I can not believe anyone survived. The car was absolutely demolished. It was so bad that you couldn’t even tell if anyone was in the car. They say they hit a light pole and they did but that’s not what did all the damage. It was the cement pillar that holds up the Bart tracks they hit after they went through the light pole. We called out to see if we could hear anyone at all but like I said the car was so demolished you couldnt tell. The fire department had to cut through so much of the mess just to get them out. When I seen them bring the person out on the stretcher and put him into the ambulance I literally cried and thanked God and pray he would be okay but we could not believe someone made it through that. I also cannot believe how the homes right behind it did not hear anything or call 911. I’m so sorry to the family of the woman that did not make it may she rest in peace. It was a horrible site to come upon and a hard picture to get out of our minds Please everyone slow down and drive safe.

Mom2Boys November 1, 2021 - 12:18 PM - 12:18 PM

Thank you for stopping, calling 911 and remaining on the scene. If this were my loved ones, I would hope someone would do the same. You’re a very kind person. I’m sorry that both you and your daughter had to see it but thank you for being decent humans (which are hard to find these days) that no matter what the reason of the crash, you stayed to help people in need. Thank you for that.

Hanne Jeppesen November 1, 2021 - 1:14 PM - 1:14 PM

Sounds horrible, I can imagine the trauma you and your daughter went through, and most likely is still experiencing, but you did the right thing.
It sounds that no matter what else was involved, excessive speed was definitely a factor. I wish people would slow down, especially on city streets that are not a highway. Almost everday I see speeders and red light runners, just don’t get it, not only are those drivers endangering other drivers, but also themselves and their passengers.

Emily Shannons Lumbe Carbonel November 1, 2021 - 5:36 PM - 5:36 PM

rest in peace dear kathy
