Blue, Yellow California License Plates Could Make A Comeback Thanks To Legislation From Concord Assemblyman

Assemblymember Timothy Grayson (D-Concord) introduced legislation to bring two of California’s most iconic license plates back to the roads. Under AB 378, motorists will have the opportunity to apply for California’s 1950s (yellow) and 1970s (blue) Legacy License Plates.

“With COVID-19 lockdowns now in our rearview window, Californians are ready to return to the roads and celebrate joyous parts of California’s history” said Assemblymember Grayson. “AB 378 will allow for some of California’s most iconic license plates to return to production for car enthusiasts and everyday drivers alike.”

In 2013, AB 1658 (Gatto) established California’s Legacy License Plate Program, which led to the 1960s black with yellow lettering Legacy Plate to return to production. Since its reintroduction, the 1960s Legacy License Plate has become the best-selling specialty license plate offered by the Department of Motor Vehicles.

AB 378 will build off the success of the 1960s Legacy Plate reintroduction by providing California motorists a one-year window, beginning on January 1, 2024, to submit applications for a 1950s (yellow plate with black lettering) and/or 1970s (blue plates with yellow lettering) Legacy License Plate. Similar to the 2013 legislation, in order for either plate to go back into production, it must receive at least 7,500 applications.

Fees collected for the California 1950s and 1970s Legacy License Plates would be deposited into the Environmental License Plate fund, which benefits environmental projects in California.

AB 378 is awaiting referral to a policy committee for a hearing.

.
Because license plate colors are soooooo important.
.
How about repealing onerous regulations on small businesses? Or addressing illegal immigration?

An ideal California License plate would be one that removes the word California. Then it would be safe to travel to other states without having to endure the angry California haters and their liberal use of the middle finger salute.

I think Mr. Grayson has a HUGE problem with Concord and its MASSIVE CRIME RATE and MASSIVE HOMELESS and MASSIVE FELLONS ON THE LOOSE and MASSIVE POTHOLES that are turning into sinkholes, etc…etc….etc…. and you are introducing a freaking license plate????

Agree with Claycord note on the Golden State plate… I have a vehicle with the original Golden State plate that I would like to get replaced with new ones

I got one too, and California wants to buy my vehicle back every year.

It’s a license plate. Not a fashion statement. What a spectacular waste of time, money and effort! Especially since we already have a choice of California Legacy (1960) plates as an option for personalized plates. I’m embarrassed that I live in the same city as Mr. Grayson. There are so many more important issues that we need to be working on.

Actually I kind of like them pushing this stuff instead of spending their time screwing up the state on other issues.

Pragmatic. If this distraction keeps them from screwing things up further then it’s a real bonus.

Angry American February 4, 2023 - 1:02 PM - 1:02 PM

it’s a money generator, nothing more. DMV charges for color, style and personalization. He likely has a stake in the game here whether political or financial.

Heck of an accomplishment, legislation to allow/permit alternate colors of a license plate to raise money for environmental projects (more like line the pockets of the members of these groups proposing these fantastic “environmental” projects).

The blue plates remind me of the gutless smog-choked pieces of junk we had in the 1970s.

The golden state plate is cool. I have one on my truck, which tells you how old it is.

There’s nothing more important for the California democrat politicians to do? I could be wrong, but aren’t there much bigger issues that need to be taken care of? Infrastructure? Roads? Crime? Education? Inflation? Can those that voted for and helped to put the democrat politicians into office answer my question?

Perhaps the GAVNUSM vanity plates are still available. While that may cause attention from monetarily oriented women, it will likely get you equal attention from the opposite camp. Not that there is anything wrong with that………

Amazing – give people the option to pay more for a license plate when other drivers keep the temporary paper one on for 6+ months. Our priorities are lookin real good!!

The state is in deficit billions of dollars and this is the best Timmy can come up with?

He gets one bill through that helps his child.

His next bill is about license plates, perhaps those colors will match his car.

Timmy is worse than Marky for being useless.

This is a good thing, no, this is a great thing, and not a bad thing!!!
.
It is a far better use of time for our cheating, corrupt, crooked, deceptive, lying, Preacher-Assemblyman Tim Grayson and his cohorts in the California State Legislature to use their time working on the meaningless “California Legacy License Plate Program,” rather than working on legislation that might actually matter to the lives of Californians, because they’ve made it clear they have no intention of fixing California’s problems, because they have no idea how to fix California’s problems, they only know how to make California’s problems worse, they only intend to and know how to further erode THE RIGHTS OF THE PEOPLE and expand THE RIGHTS OF THE STATE!!! The normal course of action for our elected representatives is to only seek to introduce and pass bills that allows the State to further engage in the BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION and SOCIAL ENGINEERING of the people!!!
.
It is unfortunate, but historians and the media only view a successful legislative session by the number of bills signed into law, but not the number of bills that preserve and/or expand THE RIGHTS OF THE PEOPLE, or even preserve their own rights, THE RIGHTS OF THE PRESS, but they view the expansion of THE RIGHTS OF THE STATE as a successful legislative session. Each of our Representatives on our City Councils, County Board of Supervisors, State Legislatures, and Congress should first be asked how many City, County, State, or Federal laws there are and why all of those laws are necessary? If they can’t answer those questions then they shouldn’t be introducing more laws or voting for more laws. The preservation and expansion of rights and the repeal of bad and unnecessary laws should be viewed as a successful legislative session!!!
.
We’ve allowed our Representatives to create so many laws and they’ve allowed the Administrative State to expand unfettered, that the State can get each and every Californian on something. It doesn’t matter how ethically, honestly, and/or morally one lives their life or not, because the State has been given the power to get anyone on something, the State has been given the power to destroy the lives of Californians!!!
.
This largely unnecessary proposed expansion of the “California Legacy License Plate Program” is a welcome site compared to the damaging bills we normally see from our California Legislators!!!
