Home Depot Security Guard Shoots, Injures Robbery Suspect

A security guard shot and injured a robbery suspect at the San Carlos Home Depot on Monday night, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.

At about 10 p.m., employees of the store at 1125 Old County Road confronted 26-year-old Jonathan Mackey because they believed he was shoplifting, sheriff’s officials said.

The confrontation led to a scuffle, during which Mackey allegedly got ahold of a security guard’s collapsible baton and used it to hit him in the head and face, according to the sheriff’s office.

Mackey then allegedly threw the baton through a window near the store’s entrance, and the security guard then shot at him twice, hitting him at least once.

A deputy who was in the area heard the shots and went to the store, where he called for backup and arrested Mackey while providing aid to both him and the security guard, sheriff’s officials said.

Mackey and the guard were taken to a hospital for treatment and are expected to recover.

Mackey, a San Carlos resident, was arrested on suspicion of robbery and assault with a deadly weapon, sheriff’s officials said.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the sheriff’s office at (650) 363-4911. People can also call the anonymous tip line at (800) 547-2700.

Glad the Home Depot security guard survived this encounter. Looks like all the security will need to stay strapped since our POS DA is worthless & bought
