If these people really knew what they were protesting for, they might not do it. Never forget Munich.

Yes, because we cannot let anyone voice their opinion against policies of a foreign government that condone ethnic cleansing.

This is a bit beyond voicing an opinion.

Ethnic cleaning is River to Sea, the slogan of Hamas. What bs you spread

Yoyohop May 1, 2024 - 7:47 AM - 7:47 AM

So many suckered in to making this a Left vs Right issue.

Can’t we simply stop funding foreign wars and penalize all law breaking protestors evenly.

It’s one thing to convict for criminal trespass. But all this talk about labeling them as terrorists is nonsense. It would be the exact talking point used as a pretext to arrest protesters should there be another unexpected election outcome.

Pick ’em up and take over to side of bridge secure them to a railing or support cable and take your time carting them off to jail.

Forbidden under the Eighth Amendment as cruel and unusual punishment. No wonder your friend Trump is under attack – if you advocate for violation of the civil rights of those you dislike, you are granting the opening for the same to be done to those you do like.

Robert Taylor April 30, 2024 - 11:51 PM - 11:51 PM

Handcuffing somebody for violating the law is perfectly legal. Those misguided terrorists supporters deserve to be arrested and find thousands of dollars for unlawfully being on a freeway and violating the rights of motorists!

ROBERT TAYLOR,
.
It wasn’t about handcuffing the protesters, it was about “securing them to the bridge railing or support cable.”

AJ May 1, 2024 - 7:40 AM - 7:40 AM

I don’t think anybody wants to arrest protestors, simply because they are protesting. It’s because of HOW protestors are protesting, violating other people’s freedom.

There’s something lost in comprehension of the constitution in the hive mind of these protestors. One persons freedom is not any more important to than another. When someone infringes on another’s free will, that’s a violation. The exact same violation you have decided to call into question at this Original G’s suggestion to arrest.

Also, Cruel and unusual punishment? Handcuffing someone who is a danger to those around them and themselves is not cruel or unusual. Laying in traffic is such a danger.

Instead of blocking traffic, why not gather in numbers, and choose to go on a hunger strike? Or sit-in outside of the Capitol? Or any other number of ways that don’t stop people from getting to work, that they might lose, and may not be able to feed their families or keep a roof over their heads. May not be able to get to the hospital, to see a dying relative.

Imagine if the protestors needed to see someone they cared for or had to get to work? I imagine they’d be just as outraged as the non-protestors, just trying to make it another day.

Any and all protesters blocking any of the SF Bay bridges should automatically charged with a felony.

Does any State rep or senator have the guts to put forward such a bill?

I believe this is a reasonable limitation on the First Amendment because such actions hinder commerce, emergency services, and threatens the general public health, safety, and welfare.

Hope Johnson April 30, 2024 - 10:42 PM - 10:42 PM

Except the Constitution specifically forbids the government from making a law prohibiting the right to peaceably assemble or address grievances. And those rights are not given by the government or granted by the Constitution – they are considered inherent and the Constitution is there to remind the government it has no power to take them away or limit them. There is no provision in the Constitution related to anything on your list taking precedence over the First Amendment. Our country was founded by people who lived through the abuse of power and knew it would be a constant battle. You don’t believe in freedom if you think the only people who have it are the people who agree with your preferred way of living. We have laws to regulate unlawful behavior that can be used.

15
51
Robert Taylor April 30, 2024 - 11:47 PM - 11:47 PM

Except those idiots are subject to the same laws as everyone else and being on freeways and blocking cars right of way is a violation of their rights and also illegal. Protest yes but not on a freeway. Blocking traffic is stupid and will accomplish Absolutely nothing.

THE BLACK KNIGHT May 1, 2024 - 8:59 PM - 8:59 PM

ROBERT TAYLOR,
.
The last sentence in the comment made by HOPE JOHNSON said “We have laws to regulate unlawful behavior that can be used.”

I wouldn’t call blocking all traffic on one of the main bridges around here a peaceful assembly.

47
7
MAGA SAM May 1, 2024 - 3:51 AM - 3:51 AM

It’s a crime to block traffic. It’s a federal offense to and possibly a terroristic act when blocking a federal bridge. Peacefully redressing grievances with government doesn’t mean causing safety issues on highways. It doesn’t mean you can do it however you want. If you’re violating a crime to do it just because you happen to be protesting isn’t a free pass. Anyone out protesting and putting my life in danger or blocking traffic for emergency vehicles is a terrorist. They can definitely be charged with domestic terrorism.
.
Paid protestors are just lame. Following them is even worse. FAKE OUTRAGE is like dancing tic toc nurses during the COVID HOAX.

38
11
MAGA SAM May 1, 2024 - 3:52 AM - 3:52 AM

Hope, now apply that to the second amendment, or are you a hypocrite?

21
12
THE BLACK KNIGHT May 1, 2024 - 2:42 PM - 2:42 PM

Yet, 250 years later we still celebrate the Boston Tea Party.
.
The rights of the Pro-Palestinian Protesters to peacefully protest shouldn’t infringe upon those individuals engaging in their right to travel, but I don’t understand all of the anger over the actions of these protesters blocking traffic for a few minutes to a few hours, when the State of California does this to Californians each and every day, causing most of the residents of California to lose days of their lives each and every year! We have traffic problems and parking problems throughout California on a daily basis that affects the lives of millions of individuals, for no other reason than the State of California having declared a “War on Cars,” purposely causing traffic and parking problems by not expanding roadways as needed and requiring fewer parking spaces, in order to make California’s travelers miserable enough that they won’t travel by car, but instead will walk, bike, and use public transportation as their preferred modes of transportation. Is the State of California, as well as those individuals that have made these decisions, violating the rights of individuals to “freely travel,” or engaging in “terrorism” by purposely creating traffic and parking problems, just as these protesters have caused traffic problems, or is the state just engaging in “behavior modification” and “social engineering?” The actions of the State of California purposely creating traffic are infringing on the rights of Americans to freely travel on a daily basis, yet we hear nothing about that, because people here are more outraged by the occasional actions of some protesters over “feelings” and “inconvenience,” while the State is hurting you more than these protesters are. Focus on the big picture, not the small picture.

13

Oh, please May 1, 2024 - 9:25 PM - 9:25 PM

What is your problem? This is NOT peaceful. And until everyone can understand that, we will still have problems.

Max May 3, 2024 - 9:46 PM - 9:46 PM

The protestors need to go back to what ever country they came from if they are not a citizen and some may be here on student visas, but since they hate this country, send them back. Some are paid protesters, arrest them. Some places had replaced our AMERICAN FLAG with their Palestine flag. Blocking thruways and bridges is not an legal protest. Stopping kids from entering a building is not a legal protest. It is so sad what is happening to this country. I had relatives that have fought in every war since this country was founded, and they would be disgusted with what is happening to this country. To think that those young kids are our future leaders is more than scary.

Just curious 🤔 May 1, 2024 - 3:40 PM - 3:40 PM

I dont care what they are protesting in this instance no matter what it is or who it is if you are impeding the rights of others is the same stopping them. No difference in forcing someone to do what you want because at this point it is against their will maybe (a long shot here but sounds sort of like coercion if you really wanted to put a strong label on it). You could make an argument for just about anything truthfully. The fact is they are stopping a lot of people from doing things against their will and on this sort of scale on a bridge it really should be a felony not really a prison sentence type felony but thats exactly what they are doing is holding you prisoner. I say still a felony for ever doing this for any reason on any bridge in the USA ever!!! People will think twice before ever doing it again. There are many other ways to make your point rather than doing this to possibly thousands of people.

TPC April 30, 2024 - 7:40 PM - 7:40 PM

And the beat goes on…
These people have no idea how ineffectual their protests are and have complete disregard for how their actions affect others. It’s all cyclical, and very arrogant. These kids are woefully unaware of how they are being played.
There are many other issues closer to home for which one can stand.
Open your eyes and think for yourself. Stand up for something in which you believe, not for something you are told to believe. This game has been played for many lifetimes. You have the power to stop it. Think.

Insane describes Ben-Gvir, Smotrich and Netanyahu’s policy attacking women and children refugees without allowing a safe passage. Insanity is the Likud party’s original platform advocating territorial seizures “from the river to the sea.” Wake up!

Dr. Jellyfinger May 1, 2024 - 7:30 AM - 7:30 AM

Safe passage IS allowed by the Israelis, they warn civilians to evacuate before attacking, but Hamas won’t allow it, they need women & children to hide behind and use the resulting casualties for propaganda to steer public opinion.
Alot of Hamas’ Heroes videotaped their attacks on Oct. 7th.
Hamas supporters should have a look at those… seeing the atrocities committed against innocent civilians, not soldiers but women, children babies!
Rape, murder & pillage was their cause, then they took hostages to bargain with.
Cowards hiding behind innocents who can support that?!!!

Protests like this are the secular left’s version of the Christian sacrament of baptism. If you can get a young person to participate in a protest march or sit in or (even better) an act of civil disobedience, you have made a convert for life. It is an intense emotional experience of giving yourself to a larger cause, and creates strong bonds with other new “converts” who share the same experience.

The pro-life movement is the closest analog in conservative circles. The pro-life marches in almost every state every year draw many thousands of young people, and decades later the pro-life movement remains strong. The big difference of course is the willingness of the secular left to break the law in the course of their protests.

Personally I object to both the goals and tactics of these pro-Hamas protest organizers, but I understand why they are doing it. It is all about the young people and creating another generation of activists.

Cosplay.

The media in the middle east (and around the world) are totally laughing at and trolling these lost “rebel without a cause” activist kids. Perhaps one day they’ll be able to self reflect enough to see the bigger picture of what’s really going on and how they’re being used.

The next generation (after this) will especially think that they were useful idiots, and not the brave warrior activist (cosplayers) that they think they were.

Israel was attacked, FACT.
After 9/11 if liberals had blocked traffic sympathizing with terrorists
what would have been reaction of Americans?
.
One reason Israel isn’t attacked more often is their reaction against those who attack them.
Overwhelming lethality, may take decades, review what happened to planners after Munich terrorist attack.

Those funding protests hope America will reign in Israel.
Terror planners and actors shall be assassinated, as they should be.

A bunch of useless idiots who have nothing else to do. They don’t care about Gaza and they don’t know anything about the situation. They just want to jump on the latest bandwagon – whatever it happens to be. The “protests” are basically Spring Break for these fools. Nobody cares what they think, how they feel, or what they have to say. They are insignificant, uninformed losers. People with genuine concerns or a personal interest in a problem have every right to peacefully protest. NO ONE has the right to block traffic, take over buildings, or harass people trying to go about their daily business. Those of us who have lives – jobs, friends, family, and things to do have no patience with this. The only thing these stunts have shown what useless cowards our politicians are. Where’s Dementia Joe and all the rest of the Washington clowns? When is DeSaulnier going to do a Town Hall on the rights of Jewish students to attend school without being harassed? Ridiculous performances by a bunch of fools. I’m disgusted by all of them.

Do these idiots really think Netanyahu cares that they’re laying on the SF Bay Bridge? Do they think he’s going to declare a cease-fire because a bunch of gender-studies majors are offended? Do they think Hamas is watching this and thanks them for their support? If either side is watching this they’re laughing their butts off at these fools. The whole world is laughing their butts off. I love the selective outrage of these people. War atrocities in Gaza: bad. War atrocities in Sudan: huh? Where’s that? War atrocities in Ukraine: Don’t care… can’t get dressed up in a scarf for the protest…. The complete and utter ignorance of these people is astounding.
