The following message was sent by Mount Diablo School District Superintendent Dr. Adam Clark:
Dear Mt. Diablo Unified School District parents and staff:
I am writing to inform you that on Friday, December 10, 2021, Mt. Diablo Unified School District Administration was informed that a District employee was arrested Thursday night by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force Unit on suspicion of attempted enticement of a minor related to online communications.
There is no reason to believe that any current or former Mt. Diablo Unified student(s) are involved in this investigation.
The District immediately placed the employee, who worked at three elementary schools, on administrative leave pending investigation.
Mt. Diablo Unified School District is committed to providing a safe learning environment for all students and appreciates the quick response by law enforcement in this matter. The District is cooperating with law enforcement authorities to the fullest extent permitted by law. Additional information will be shared as appropriate, but we cannot release any more details at this time.
I encourage you to speak to your children about cyber safety and appropriate online communications. The PTA and Common Sense Media have resources that you may find helpful.

The suspect’s name hasn’t been released at this time.
UPDATE: Although it hasn’t been confirmed, we’re hearing the suspect worked at Wren Avenue, Sun Terrace and Sequoia Elementary schools.
UPDATE: A music teacher who worked at all three schools was arrested this week, however, police have not confirmed he’s the suspect.
UPDATE: A man named Darrin Michaels is currently in custody at the county jail in Martinez, according to the Office of the Sheriff. He’s being charged with arranging to meet a minor, attempted lewd or lascivious act with a child under 14, and contacting a minor with intent for sex.

They were certainly all neglected by the public schools are their teachers last year.

The MDUSD does not do backgrounds on employees like they should. I think this is like the third one over several years. This schools dist is corrupt and has horrible leadership. The school dist will probably keep this teacher in the payroll like they did the others over the years. Wake up people of Concord and start speaking up at the school board meeting. CRT is in the MDUSD district.

Why do people rush to judgement when no details have been given or anything has been proven? The case will play itself out and eventually facts will be given. People thought the Catholic Church was bad. The church had single digit per decade suspects internationally.
Where as the US school system has had double digit suspects per year. And if the teacher is a woman, they get probation or house arrest and allowed to keep their jobs.

I attended YV and although this guy may have attended YV I know of another Darrin Micheals who also attended. The one I attended with is not this guy, just has the same name. The Darrin Micheals I attended with is 3-4 yrs older.

Elections for the school boards will have to be fully audited and recounted next cycle to prevent fraud they are literally going to have to call people back to prove that the votes are valid and it will have to be monitored by republican

I know him personally. This is a shock, like most in my situation would feel. It is so often the ones that are close and unassuming and just under the radar because they hold a position of trust. He taught both my kids for 2 years of music. Couldn’t say anything bad about him. Now, I have to question every interaction he ever had with my kids, with their classmates, and so on. He is super nice, a great teacher, a wonderful musician, and this is a huge disappointment and rocks me to my core. I want to pity him but I can’t because I am outraged and utterly disgusted!
Life is all about choices and he made BAD CHOICES, so let him get the full extent.

We taught our child to beware of strangers. Meanwhile they were in a classroom with this predator on a weekly basis. Are you telling me none of the other teachers saw a single red flag with this individual?! Were there any clues that he was a monster hiding in plain sight?! I met him and thought he seemed completely “normal” at the time. I thought, “what a dedicated teacher and musician”. Boy was I wrong! He should be ashamed of himself. I hope he lives with the knowledge that he betrayed an entire community and never has a good night of sleep again for the rest of his life. The children he interacted with at school have to live with the knowledge that their teacher was a pervert, how does one even process that knowledge?!
He grew up in the same apartments as I did. I am friends with his brother. I did not know Darrin very well. He was a lot older and moved out after high school, which was YVHS. Hearing something like this is a shock to me as well. I feel bad for his mom, brother, and sister. That said, if he is guilty, I have zero sympathies for child predators. Put him in gen pop.
