Martinez Man Charged With Gun Possession In School Zone – Suspect Released From Custody After Posting Bail

The Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office has filed a two-count complaint against a Martinez man for possessing a firearm in a school zone.

23-year-old Michael Joseph Childressfrey has an arraignment date set on May 31 for offenses related to an incident that occurred on April 26 at John Swett Elementary School in Martinez.

At approximately 1:00 pm, Martinez Police were dispatched to the school campus to investigate reports of a known adult male who was in the school parking lot. Police were told that the man was not a welcomed presence, and he frequently carries a firearm.

When officers arrived at the school, they approached Childressfrey in a parked vehicle. He was cooperative, and when asked, Childressfrey said he was in possession of a firearm.

Law enforcement authorities placed Childressfrey under arrest for gun possession in a school zone and carrying a loaded concealed firearm. Later, police seized two additional weapons from Childressfrey’s residence. Childressfrey was taken into custody and immediately posted bail before the investigation could be referred for prosecution.

While the incident was resolved peacefully, parents and neighbors have expressed their concern over the matter, and that Childressfrey posted monetary bail the day of his arrest.

District Attorney Diana Becton said, “This incident is understandably distressing– my Office worked in conjunction with the Martinez Police Department to ensure a swift filing determination. After receiving a request for prosecution from Martinez Police on Friday, the
DA’s Office reviewed the case and filed the necessary documents with the court to initiate prosecution on Monday.”

23 year old man in a grammar school parking lot with a gun and he is immediately released on bail. I give up. We are lost. Let me ask. Did he have any rational reason for being in a grammar school parking lot? Just one reason?

Are you really trying to compare a hush payment to carrying a loaded firearm at a school? You need help for your TDS

I will tell you what should have been done. He should have been held for a physiological examination.

I misspelled it and that came up as a choice and I didn’t pay attention. Won’t be the last time I do that. Keep checking. 😊

Another TDS victim here. These poor, poor souls are probably the ones we still see wearing masks and taking shots for the science.

As they refer to this guy as “Known”, and felt compelled to call police, it suggests this may not be his debut at this sort of thing.
Regardless, it’s likely a rather disconcerting feeling for parents knowing this guy was looming around their children’s elementary school.

Article isn’t clear if he was ‘known’ to the school staff or known to the police.

Amazing how they name him right off the bat compared to all of the other known to police felons, miscreants and yutes that are mentioned but unnamed.

FIRST REPUBLIC BANK…SEE THE TRUTH!

The Truth is…
Upper management suppresses internal audits for large deposits Re. money laundering. The upper management gives large loans to these types of depositors. Upper management then receives big monetary bonuses for selling large loans. Looks wonderful but you have to dive deeper to understand the greed-money-and putting balance of good depositors money at risk.
Upper management V.P./Legal Counsel was making $1,500,000+ PER YEAR.
Where are the Federal FDIC Audits to pick these illegal acts up, and confiscate their management’s assets for paying back the taxpayers who end up funding the wreck of a bank???
We should be irate and demand heads roll…

I think “Throw The Book” accidentally posted in the wrong column.

Oh, please May 3, 2023 - 9:14 PM - 9:14 PM

If he was cooperative and indicated he was armed, it makes you wonder if he was patrolling the parking lot for safety?

Or might have been red-flagged by an bitter ex-spouse. Either way, very little content in article. Doesn’t say if he had a CCW or if he was carrying illegally.

The have a new “Gun Violence Prevention Committee” in Contra Costa County. I assume their first act will be requesting no bail for gun crimes.

“known adult male who was in the school parking lot. Police were told that the man was not a welcomed presence, and he frequently carries a firearm.” Who the hell called and how did they know this? Sounds like not a first time offense or someone was simply waiting for him to do something stupid he could be arrested for, may not have had anything to do with the school. just speculating here as I would like to read some details.

WC---Creeker May 4, 2023 - 10:38 AM - 10:38 AM

We have laws against possession of a gun in a school parking, how did this happen then?

xj May 5, 2023 - 8:01 AM - 8:01 AM

Maybe the Gun Free Zone signs weren’t big enough or not in enough languages to be easily understood!

Dont cry when you get no bail for having drugs and alcohol in your vehicle while waiting to pick up your kids from school because you went to the store for groceries and you stopped by the pharmacy before you went to pickup your kids. This is a drug and alcohol free zone. This is why we are considered innocent untill proven guilty.
