The Water Cooler – Wendy’s Plans To Test Surge Pricing, Just Like Uber

The “Water Cooler” is a feature on Claycord.com where we ask you a question or provide a topic, and you talk about it.

The “Water Cooler” will be up Monday-Friday in the noon hour.

Wendy’s is looking to test having the prices of its menu items fluctuate throughout the day based on demand, implementing a strategy that has already taken hold with ride-sharing companies and ticket sellers, according to the Associated Press.

During a conference call earlier this month, the AP reported Wendy’s CEO Kirk Tanner said the burger chain will start testing dynamic pricing, also known as surge pricing, as early as next year.

QUESTION: Do you think changing the prices of menu items throughout the day is a good or bad idea for Wendy’s?

Talk about it.

Thanks for posting heads up, my trust in npr low, checked further.
.
“The burger giant’s CEO Kirk Tanner told analysts this month that new digital menu boards will enable the chain to enact “dynamic pricing”. …
“To clarify, Wendy’s will not implement surge pricing, which is the practice of raising prices when demand is highest. We didn’t use that phrase, nor do we plan to implement that practice,”

.
Good example of piling on and how fast stuff spreads in media.

Well, I’m gonna start ‘dynamic eating’!
I’m also suspicious of NPR – they dont always tell the truth!

Are they overestimating their customer loyalty ? ? ?
Would think price point could well be more important to consumers.
An with disposable income continuing to be tight would imagine families are cutting back on spending.
Earnings report going forward will tell, stock price today is close to 52 week low.

NOT a stock I’d buy because of problematic management decisions.

saw an article that they already cancelled it because of public outcry…
.
However, I won’t go during those peak hours if they do it…

I think it’s a bold move.

Whether it’s a smart move or not will be determined by the customers.

I think I ate at a Wendy’s once, many years ago. The experience wasn’t notable. ‘

My idea of fast food is an apple.

One of the reasons I’m in good health and not fat, is because I don’t eat fast foods. It’s their business, so they are entitled to run it any way they choose.

No. A burger is a burger. Customers would walk off and go to the competitors.

It’s a creative way to offset those high wages they will soon pay a kid to flip burgers. All (political) actions have consequences.

Complete misstep by Wendy’s. They should have quietly raised prices on their food, and then offered “off peak discounts”. Same result, but people would flock to a ‘discounted’ burger in off-peak times and Wendy’s would be applauded for it. Marketing 101.

Doubt they’ll implement it – if they did – they’ll lose another casual customer

So a SmartBurger? People went along with “smart” meters……and that is what it is All about = Gouging You!

Don’t participate, opt out of “smart”meters and don’t support any company who gouges.

Wendy’s is among the most successful fast food chains with a varied menu and creative marketing campaigns. Unfortunately it tastes like feet to me. 🦶 🍔
