Authorities investigating a retail theft ring arrested a suspected fence in Oakland and recovered nearly $327,000 in stolen products last week, officials said.
The investigation started in September 2023, when the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office arrested several theft suspects accused of targeting several stores.
Investigators with the sheriff’s office then identified a suspect, Octavio Ambriz-Valle of Oakland, who was allegedly fencing the stolen items.
While they worked on the case, San Ramon police arrested two women for allegedly stealing more than $13,000 in cosmetics from a Sephora store in San Ramon, police said.
San Ramon police then identified the same suspected fence already being investigated by the San Mateo Sheriff’s Office.
The two agencies started collaborating with the California Highway Patrol Organized Retail Crime Task Force, building a case, and obtained search warrants for two Oakland homes and an off-site storage container.
About $327,000 worth of stolen items from Walgreens, CVS, Walmart, Kohls, TJMaxx, Safeway, RiteAid and Sunglass Hut were recovered from the three locations in Oakland, officials said. In addition $12,196 in cash profits from the operation was also seized.
On April 17, authorities arrested 52-year-old Ambriz-Valle on suspicion of organized retail crime, grand theft, possession of stolen property and conspiracy to commit a crime.

You ain’t seen nuthin’ yet, wait until San Quentin is closed torn down and pollution remediated all at taxpayer expense becoming largest bayside parcel of undeveloped land and is handed off to DEM contributors.
You ever buy something off the internet and look up the return address on Google Maps, just to find out it’s somebody’s house? This is one of the reasons I don’t do much buying off the internet unless I know it’s coming from a reputable store, I don’t know where the items are coming from, and I have no intentions of supporting crime.

Great to learn of this theft ring being broken up. I hate to be a cynic, but given DA Price from Alameda County and DA Becton from Contra Cost County will be involved in prosecuting those arrested in their respective counties, I have little faith that justice will be served.

We all pay more for goods due to “shrinkage “. The courts need to do its job. Crime is out of control and getting worse. Prosecute.
Unfortunately this is how they are keeping crime down. If they were enforcing theft crimes during this hyper inflationary period, real crime would be through the roof. People can’t afford things. So they let them steal and charge us more. It’s American communism.
