Motorcyclist Dies After Being Crashed Into From Behind At Red Light

A 63-year-old Bay Point man died when a vehicle crashed into his motorcycle that was stopped at an intersection in Antioch on Thursday afternoon, according to police.

The crash was reported shortly before 2:10 p.m. at Deer Valley Road and Prewett Ranch Drive, where the motorcyclist, identified by the Contra Costa County coroner’s office as 63-year-old Bay Point resident William Marlik Jr., was stopped at a red light, Antioch police said.

A speeding car then struck the motorcycle from behind, causing both vehicles to collide with two other vehicles in the intersection. Marlik was taken to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries there, according to police. In such tragic incidents, personal injury lawyers often play a crucial role in helping the victims’ families seek justice and compensation.

The driver of the car that struck the motorcycle stayed at the scene and cooperated with police, who said speed and inattention appear to be factors in the collision. Police did not specify whether they would seek charges against the driver.

Manslaughter, negligent and reckless driving – he should lose his D/L license permanently after the max time in prison per the full extent of the law.

What license?
U watch,he’s the victim if he gets arrested for reckless driving and texting..

When … the license I assume he had at the time of collision … do you know if he didn’t have a license at all?

SHE was speeding, slamming into him at about 60mph. While he was at a full stop! She wasn’t paying attention either. Then he was hit in cross traffic by someone else speeding and not paying attention. This was my partner’s uncle. These people killed a good man

As a two-wheel-rider, I think about accidents a lot.. A woman made a left in front of me this week. Fortunately it was not IN TO me and I was able to lock up my brakes in time. Back tire fishtailed a bit though. And she never even saw me, just kept going.

Of all the places a motorcyclist could lose his life, at a red light? Then no charges being filed.

20+ years in the motorcycle industry and it’s not uncommon. This is an example of why it’s safer for a motorcyclist to split up to the front of stopped traffic at a light. They have a buffer of cars between them then.

It sounds like that wouldn’t have helped in this situation though.

Lane splitting when done safely with a low delta (max 15mph over traffic speed up to 45mph) makes it much safer for the motorcyclist.

That is probably true Anon but I have read about many motorcyclists death but none at a red light. Maybe that kind doesn’t make the news.

The lawyers are salivating over this one.

.
Wait for wrongful death (civil) charges to be filed.

This is no surprise given what I see on my daily commute in my car. The level of stupidity and carelessness by drivers since the pandemic is completely out of control. Passing in the median, passing on the shoulder, red light runners etc.. We need our law enforcement to double down on traffic enforcement until this type of driving is the exception and not the rule. Always paranoid on my two-wheeler at stop lights/signs.

In all fairness I’ve noticed significantly less reckless motorcycles on the freeways in the last 10 years. Good job to the riders

This was completely avoidable. Who’s issuing Driver’s Licenses these days? A cocaine-addled brain, Gavin Newsom? Right! Sanctuary Driver’s Licenses.

Your comment makes no sense. There is no way whose issuing drivers license can know who is going to be a reckless distracted driver. I doubt the driver that way during their tests. They might not even drive that way all the time.

Your brain makes no sense.!

It would help to only give licenses to folks who can read the English signs… just saying.

His comment makes PERFECT sense!

Come on people! Pay fking attention! So many bad drivers on the roads every single day. Do you really need to text, speed, or run that red light? Is it really worth it?
Unfortunately those who need to hear this most likely won’t.

The police don’t seek charges. They have to ask the DA. I think the DMV also has authority. Manslaughter is always pressed.

11

Anthony – not the DMV – it’s up to the judge to press it

Manslaughter 1st degree. Probably texting. Obtain cellphone records the sue for $ millions.

Rest in Peace Brother Bill. It was my pleasure to know you.

Please people, pay attention when you are on the road. It only takes second for something terrible like this to happen.

Bill was our family member 💔. He had 40+ years experience on a Harley Davidson. All he wanted to do that day was enjoy the sunshine after work and pick up some prescriptions, since Kaiser Martinez was on strike. He was such a wonderful and down to earth man, no words can describe the impact his absence has made. He leaves behind so many family and friends who love him…A wife, kids, grandkids, great grandkids. There’s been a GoFundMe created for anyone willing to help. We appreciate your prayers in this extremely hard time.

I am so sorry for your loss! My husband was also involved in this accident. The story isn’t entirely accurate. The woman hit both Bill and my husband while they were stopped at the light. Another truck was suffered minor damage in the intersection due to the momentum of Bill’s bike and her car. It’s been a lot to process! Our hearts are so sad for everyone involved! We don’t know Bill, but we grieve with you!

So very sad. How do you hit someone at a red light? My deepest sympathy to the family.
