I drove by there. I was wondering what happened. Claycord is the “Know All” place to go for information.

Drivers do not belong on a street if they cannot fully commit to driving. It is critical that they put all other activities aside, or they should not be driving. It requires focus and responsibility. Had the driver not been speeding or distracted, perhaps this would’ve never happened. If it were simply a two car collision, could the blame have been so easily shifted? Be considerate.

I drove by as well taking my son to CHS HoCo dance. He was nowhere near a crosswalk. Pedestrians must also follow safety rules and laws when it comes to crossing the street, otherwise even if the driver is paying attention, chances are you’re going to get hit, especially if it’s dark and you’re wearing dark clothing. The driver cannot see you until it’s too late. Think y’all.

Yea, because we know that this driver was definitely doing one of those things and the kid didn’t dart into the road like a teenager. /Sarcasm

Does anyone have an update on the condition of the pedestrian? I live on Crestwood. This area is a death trap. Speeders fly down Concord Blvd then miss the slight curve at Crestwood. Trees have been hit and fences and power and light poles have come down. I will not walk on this side of the street. All Concord PD has to do is set up at Lilac Lane and sit back to catch speeders during the day. We wave to thank CPD every time we see them pull someone over. I don’t know the circumstances of this accident but I would not be surprised if the pedestrian was just walking on the sidewalk.

It was a kid on a mountain bike.. The bike was all mangled and the windshield of the SUV was smashed (by the impact of the body).. 35 MPH zone, where everyone drives 60 MPH.. Prayers go out to the kid and family

WOW….
I am so glad to hear that he is okay!
Just because a pedestrian isn’t crossing the street In the legal spot, doesn’t give a driver the right to NOT pay attention (between crosswalks) while driving and hit someone who made a bad choice.
This driver must have been going fast; it seems a 14 or 15 yr old boy could out run a car driving at a legal speed for that area.

Thanks for the up[date anonymous 2:07 pm. Good to know he is OK. I drove by today and noticed a portion of the fence knocked off. Do you know if the vehicle hit him on the sidewalk or was he in the road?

Julie October 13, 2019 - 11:16 PM - 11:16 PM

Thank you so much for the update anon, so relieved he will be ok. Continued prayers for healing.

KG is correct that the result when vehicles fail to take this particular curve in the Boulevard is that the vehicle mows down mailboxes, fences, and whatever/whoever else happens to be there! There have been several deaths along this stretch near where Glazier Drive T-bones into the Boulevard. So I am elated to read here that this young pedestrian will recover. I hope Concord Police Department will see this article, realize how concerned we are, and give official information about the young person’s well-being and whether the driver even stopped to give aid.

The posted speed limit here is 35 mph, but most drivers ignore it and even sometimes hit highway speed in an effort to “make” the long stop lights at Bailey Road and/or Denkinger Road (depending on direction of travel), Sometimes the causation of accidents along here is the driver’s being intoxicated …. or else (in at least one case) driving toward downtown, falling asleep at the wheel, and going straight instead of following the street’s curve. Other fatalities have resulted when drivers pulled out of Glazier Dr. at that completely blind corner and were hit by another vehicle. (i.e. there is a turn lane there to receive vehicles turning left onto Concord Boulevard, but getting safely TO that lane is a true Russian Roulette scenario.) And yes, I am another one who is so very grateful for the times CPD parks on Lilac Court to stand watch!!!

(KG, hi! …. I was at home but did not hear emergency response sirens this
time, did you?)

Kind of off topic but one of the things that really agitated me with this younger generation is that they LOVE to have acronyms for everything! For the last day I kept trying to figure out what in the heck was ‘HoCo’ (apparently this kid was on his way to the concord high school ‘HoCo’. It is Homecoming.
Seriously kids – just spell it out… I know it’s easier to type less letters but it will help you learn to spell!

Thank you RJ!! I was racking my brain trying to decide if HoCo was some sort of ho-down or what!! Spelling things out obviously would aid comprehension! I am appalled by how many ADULTS AND ADOLESCENTS cannot spell to save their lives!! Don’t teachers give spelling tests anymore? Or is that considered “degrading” to the poor student who WON’T STUDY?
