The body of a woman found in 1979 on the Benicia shoreline has been successfully identified, closing the case of a missing woman from the same year, police officials announced.

The case of the found body was reopened in July when the Doe Network approached the Benicia Police Department with a possible identification for the body, which proved to be incorrect.

Benicia Detective Sergeant Kenneth Hart continued the investigation and expanded the search of missing women from the immediate Bay Area to Sacramento, and he came upon a strong match.

Further investigation and DNA testing proved the body was in fact that of 45-year-old Dolores Wulff, who had vanished from her home in Woodland, Yolo County, in the middle of the night of July 31, 1979.

“We are so glad to be able to bring a sort of closure to the Wulff family after decades of uncertainty,” Interim Chief of Police Mike Greene said. “I am also proud of Sgt. Hart and his team’s tenacity on this case.”

Wulff’s husband was originally arrested after she went missing, but the case was dropped due to lack of evidence. There are currently no other suspects.

The investigation was carried out by the Benicia Police Department in cooperation with the Solano County Sheriff’s Office, the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office, and the Department of Justice DNA lab, with the assistance of the Solano County Coroner’s Office, the Wulff family, and the DOE Network.

WOW!…it’s been 41 years. I was a senior in high school. Technology is a wonderful thing.

So, do we have suspect noted or is that still in progress?

Sorry for the family and for her side of the family! RIP!

Read the penultimate paragraph again. The husband was suspected but never charged based on lack of evidence. There are currently no other suspects.

I’ll have to go look, but I thought I read in another article on this that the husband has passed…

Her husband died in 2005.
Although suspected & arrested but charges dropped for lack of evidence, if he did this, some people really do get away with murder.
