Contra Costa County Fair Canceled For Second Consecutive Year

The 2021 Contra Costa County Fair, scheduled for May 13-16 at the county Event Park (fairgrounds) in Antioch, has been canceled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, fair officials said Thursday.

“There is no higher priority than the safety of our fairgrounds family, patrons, vendors, promoters and sponsors,” according to a statement from the Contra Costa Event Park Board of Directors, who voted unanimously Wednesday night to cancel the 2021 fair.

This marks the second consecutive year there will be no Contra Costa County Fair, as COVID-19-related concerns also prompted the cancellation of the fair in May 2020.

Board members said they understand canceling the fair again has both financial and emotional impact on everyone connected with the fair, including the visitors.

Until this year, the Contra Costa County Fair has been an annual event for more than 80 years, except for a few years during World War II. In recent years the fair has drawn between 50,000 and 60,000 people over its four-day run.

Meanwhile, plans for the 2022 Contra Costa County Fair, set for May 12-15, 2022, will move forward, fair officials said.

I have to admit I don’t really know what goes into planning such a fair, but I assume it takes months to line things up. I use to be the Master of Ceremonies for the Scandinavian Club in San Francisco, every December we celebrated Lucia, which is a Swedish tradition, although Santa Lucia was an Italian saint (don’t ask me how it ended up being a Swedish tradition), however we started to plan already in February after the new committee was elected, we had to secure a location etc. we had a group of singers perform every year, and they had to be booked way in advance. Usually the event was attended by 200-300 people. So I imagine a fair like that is much more complicated. Why rush to judgement, and give them the benefit of doubt.

This is just asinine. Will the last person to leave California turn out the lights. Stick a fork in this communist state, it is done.

California used to be known as the land of Fruit and Nuts. This is proof that the Nuts won.

My parents meet at the fairgrounds in 1957. The reason why I am here, sorry felt the need to share. They need a sign and then let the fair begin. All citizens with underlying conditions please stay home. All healthy citizens are welcome. Just a little more history my Mom was there with her date when my Dad walked up to Moms date and asked to be introduced to my Mom. My Dad was cool like that and the rest is history.
