State Senator Pushes For CA Government To Reach Zero Emissions By 2035

State Sen. Josh Becker announced his new legislative initiatives for a cleaner California during the United Nations Climate Conference this week, one of which calls on state government operations directly to go carbon neutral.

California already has a goal to meet carbon neutrality for its entire economy by no later than 2045, based on then-Gov. Jerry Brown’s executive order in 2018. This means all citizens and companies in the state would adjust to eco-friendly vehicles, energy options and conservation methods in production.

Becker’s new legislation, which will be introduced in January when the state Legislature reconvenes, would push for government operations to get to zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2035, 10 years earlier than the statewide goal.

“If we are going to ask the entire state to achieve net zero, shouldn’t the government lead by example and show how to get to zero before asking everyone else to do it?” Becker asked in a news release.

Becker’s hope is that this bill could encourage California to kickstart progress by trying out zero emission operations.

“The state could — and should — lead on these issues by developing clear plans for how the state government will get to net zero emissions within its own operations by being an early adopter of the necessary technologies that will ultimately be needed by the rest of the state,” Becker said.

Becker also wants to make reforms to “Build Clean Faster” to build up essential, environmentally-friendly projects and infrastructure at a quick pace.

“We cannot let business as usual, with all that red tape, prevent us from doing what must be done. It’s time that we stop paying lawyers to fight about these projects and start paying workers to get them built.”

Well, I guess it’s a noble goal, but they still haven’t figured out how we’re going to charge all the electric cars being plugged in. Plus they’ve already decided they’re going to ban gas stoves water heaters and house heaters. Those will have to be electric too. I think of the tremendous cost for the California consumer and the un dependable electricity.
And you know what? Even if we do this, and cut out all emissions, we’re still going to have up to 29% of the air pollution we have now, because that floats over from China.
Just say’in.

Bobfished November 5, 2021 - 3:07 PM - 3:07 PM

Their goal is not for everyone to have electric cars. Their goal is to have everyone using buses and other public transportation. No private vehicles.

The plan is simple. Make conditions in California so unlivable that everyone except the wealthy and the servant class has no choice but to move to another state.

Can you imagine what California will be like if it really goes zero emissions, and they can’t import energy from elsewhere? As Dandy Don used to sing, “Turn out the lights, the party’s over”.

WC November 5, 2021 - 2:21 PM - 2:21 PM

Another Democrat stooge in Sacramento. They can’t even keep the lights on now.

Yertle the Turtle November 5, 2021 - 2:24 PM - 2:24 PM

They’re gonna achieve zero emission by proxy of everyone moving out of the state lol.

this_that November 5, 2021 - 7:01 PM - 7:01 PM

Can also be done by moving residence 6 feet under, by relocation instructions that were provided for us within the last 18 months. It’s up to folks to follow it, or not.

Any clean, environmentally friendly energy talk that excludes nuclear power is a scam.

ClayDen November 5, 2021 - 4:36 PM - 4:36 PM

Exactly. We need more engineers and scientists in government that understand these things. Pronouncements by politicians are usually only worth the paper they are written on.

Bobfished November 6, 2021 - 10:34 AM - 10:34 AM

Your 100% right. Without nuclear energy this will never happen. As of now there are no plans for nuclear. So that leaves us in the dark!

Bobfished November 5, 2021 - 2:53 PM - 2:53 PM

OH, Really . . . how’s about we wait ‘n see those KNEE JERK pollution regulations on diesel trucks in CA pan out.
Ya know like diesel trucks that haul cargo containers offloaded from large container ships.

” “We are showing the world that we can move goods, grow our economy and finally dump dirty diesel,” Jared Blumenfeld, California’s Secretary for Environmental Protection, sneered.

Jared and California certainly showed the world something.
While the ultimate truck ban was scheduled for 2045, an initial phase-in of 5% to 9% begins in 2024. Last year, California’s DMV began refusing to register thousands of trucks with an estimated 100,000 trucks under threat.

“California promulgated a diesel engine rule that took out of service some $20 billion dollars of diesel equipment, including trucks, farm and construction equipment, by way of air quality rule that was steeped in academic and regulatory corruption. The rule required multiple replacements and modifications of engines that were too expensive for most owner operators, and mom and pop companies, to comply with. Most of this equipment has never been replaced.

History, . . . Another KNEE JERK move regarding what used to be our reliable electricity supply infrastructure. With “green” Lemming like sychophany, CA got rid of existing infrastructure with out having a RELIABLE replacement in place and operating with capability to replace the eliminated infrastructure

‘California regulators edge away from gas peaker plants’
“The California Public Utilities Commission last week rejected a proposed refurbishment to the Ellwood gas-fired peaker plant in the Moorpark region of southern California, finding that “no reliability need justifies approval” of the plant at this time.”

“Last month, California lawmakers passed SB 338, which would mandate that utilities develop carbon-free alternatives to gas generation for meeting peak demand in their integrated resource plans. The bill awaits an expected signature from Gov. Jerry Brown (D).”

Must be great for builders and those who rent out large backup diesel generators.

Bottom line is there existing technology capable of providing reliable power 24 hours a day all year long at zero emission ? ? ? ?

Personally am tired of hearing Utopian fantasies from those able to pass laws who lack a comprehensive knowledge of power generation, transmission, load balancing of distribution systems.

He does not understand California is a very small part of this big thing called the Earth, and doing the net zero thing in California is as useful as reducing the crime rate by not doing any more armed robberies in your house tonight. What an idiot. How about having Brandon pressure China to stop building coal fired plants instead.

Add India to the coal fired powerplants list.

Almost every state official scares me. How about by 2045 we all have a free nuclear reactor in our garage or by 2030 we will all be growing our own food. If they want zero admissions how about stop talking.

Becker must not have gotten the memo. If 80% of the population is supposed to be gone by then there should no need for any such initiative.

And once again we have virtue signaling agenda where the consequences of this issue are not taken into account. They don’t realize what it would take to generate the amount of electricity to replace gas as an energy source. Those who support the leftist insanity are responsible for the downfall of America.

Carbon Neutral is slang for – It is going to cost you the tax payers. Kind of like paying off Al Capone or Al Gore’s accountants. The carbon emissions will continue to flow and we will all pay the fines to make it equal ZERO emissions. 😮

jjshawk November 6, 2021 - 12:24 AM - 12:24 AM

I have ZERO interest in owning an electric or any other zero-emissions vehicle that will cost me a premium; in fact, I don’t give a f__k about climate change. We humans, are just ants in the big picture of this planet, and how arrogant are we, to think we can affect Mother Nature? The whole thing is a f__king scam. Don’t get me wrong, we shouldn’t be reckless. Cars are running cleaner than ever, and that includes anything built within the last 15 – 20 years.

Cautiously Informed November 6, 2021 - 7:08 AM - 7:08 AM

I propose that the California democrat government start immediate plans for a giant plastic dome to fit over the top of the entire state. With that in place, all the of smog, pollution, and emissions that will(and do) come from next door states, like China, India, Mexico…. will be effectively kept out.

The Fearless Spectator November 6, 2021 - 11:31 AM - 11:31 AM

That’s a great idea! A giant “cone of silence”!

If we could just start with a small cone of silence dropped over Newsom’s head, that would significantly reduce “press conference methane” immediately.

Cautiously Informed November 7, 2021 - 7:09 PM - 7:09 PM

^Awesome idea.👍🏻

Jeff (the other one) November 6, 2021 - 9:34 AM - 9:34 AM

He wants CA government operations to be carbon neutral in its operations by 2035? Please. CA government cannot do anything but spend money, cater to non-citizens and virtue signal (oh, and drive away business). Does carbon neutral include all the exhaled CO2 from the hot air these dolts keep expelling out their pie holes?

The insane anti US policies of the Democrats come directly from the globalist billionaires and the institutions they created
The party apparatus is a fake facade of democracy
The media is the means to create propaganda
The FBI and CIA enforce the globalist agenda
Russia and China and Iran and many others here are not on board
There is a hybrid war in progress
Globalism vs nationalism and multipolar network of sovereign states
US will lose and dollar will crash
Then the vile dem politicians and traitors will be running for the hills

JRocks November 6, 2021 - 7:28 PM - 7:28 PM

California is filled with stupid people. It is amazing how these people keep getting elected.

bendavis801 November 7, 2021 - 12:49 PM - 12:49 PM

Zero emissions for CA while the rest of the world is just running their countries with little to no regulations. I just had to buy a new flatbed truck because of Newsom’s CARB law on Diesel Trucks. My new gasoline flatbed truck gets 8 miles to the gallon instead of the 14 miles to the gallon on the old diesel truck. Liberal environmental laws don’t work to clean the air. And what about the carbon footprint made to mine for the Cobalt in lithium batteries used in electric cars. Child and slave labor is also used to mine for Cobalt in the Congo. You won’t hear Gavin talk about any of that. He is a POS
