There is a very simple solution to stop this. Build more prisons and jails and put criminals in them. The more criminals in prison means law abiding citizens can live their lives in safety. Divide that by the population of California, and that’s $30 to you. And you say you had a $500 phone stolen.
One other thing, where you mention how miserable he will be on the streets and that is his penalty. I once lived next to someone who cycled through drug sales, then worker’s comp fraud, and then finally an armed robbery. Other than the times he had cops at his door, he was a rather happy person. Had lots of friends. Always a smile on his face. Not miserable at all.
