State To Extend Indoor Mask Mandate Through February 15

California will extend its indoor mask mandate through at least Feb. 15 due to the state’s wave of COVID-19 cases tied to the omicron variant, one of the state’s top health officials said Wednesday.

California Health and Human Services Secretary Dr. Mark Ghaly said the ongoing omicron wave has made state officials concerned about hospitals hitting their capacity limits in the coming weeks.

As of Wednesday, roughly 8,000 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19, not including other conditions, according to state data.

“We are concerned about the level of admission,” Ghaly said.

The state issued the mandate last month, with an initial end date of Jan. 15.

Ghaly did not give a certain number of hospitalizations to which the state would have to decline to rescind the statewide mandate.

He added that the state has no plans at this time to reimplement business and school limitations and closures as it did during last winter’s surge in cases.

Of course it is.

Well apparently lots of people that were shopping at Lowe’s and Home Depot today didn’t get this memo because there was quite a few people inside both these stores that didn’t have masks on including ourselves, then off to target and no one said a thing to us about putting our masks on.
Kind of stupid to that have both vaccines and all boosters available that they still have to wear a mask what are they afraid of catching?
Awaiting the next round of bs mandates or comments by so called experts.
The hell with any mask mandate.
The whole mask thing is a crock of BS.

Really??? January 5, 2022 - 5:57 PM - 5:57 PM

Agree 100%!!!

Agreed and the only way that this mask thing will end is when enough of us decide that it is over.

Raiderette January 5, 2022 - 4:25 PM - 4:25 PM

If 8,000 people are hospitalized, clearly the masks are not working. Seems the best way to curb the virus is to stop allowing international travel. France now has some variant as well. Just a thought.

For the most part, masks don’t do anything.

Want to avoid getting sick?

Get healthy, eat healthily, get exercise, and don’t mingle in crowds.

Wash your hands, keep things clean, simply take better care of yourselves

Covid is nothing more than a really bad cold. Healthy people don’t get as sick.

Just like any other virus, the basic rules apply.

Don’t fall for the propaganda.

I you don’t understand by now, you’re hopeless. This is about control not a virus. California will keep this going until WE do something.

The masking is definitely a step forward in the right direction. However, I strongly caution its application. Misapplying them can lead to death. It says so right there in the labeling on the box!

So nice being in another state where liberty was valued more than a false sense of security. More and more, I suspect about half the people in this state will outright ignore these silly mandates, and they are silly. If someone is afraid to go maskless, then by all means, wear a mask. Afraid to be amongst those without masks, well, stay home, or go at a time where you won’t be exposed. Let we (once free) citizens just live our lives….

I don’t think these mask mandates are going away soon.

Folks here in contra costa county welcome all the mandates. I was at a local restaurant in town, for which I was picking up a to-go order. Group of people were going to do indoor dining. They proudly flashed their smart phone QR code and stamped vaccination cards to the host without even being asked. One of members in the party even celebrated their third vaccination line, showing proof of booster. It’s beyond just mere compliance, but it was display of virtuousness.

All of the members of the party were masked too. I thought it was humorous that they all crowded together in a small table, and then removed their masks. I figure once they are vax passport verified, they are immune? Indeed ‘interesting’ times.

Torcofuel January 6, 2022 - 11:17 AM - 11:17 AM

Above comment ” Folks here in contra costa county welcome all the mandates”. What kool aid have you been drinking because all folks in CCC do NOT welcome them. You see one instance in a restaurant and you think that means all folks welcome mandates? Haha
Far from it man, we are out everyday shopping going out on the town traveling to different areas in the Bay area and we don’t see people welcoming the mask mandates, you may see all the brainwashed clueless people in the long lines waiting to get free testing but that’s because they got the sniffles and their heads up their butts thinking they need to go get tested just to find out their clueless about what’s going on and just paranoid.
Sometimes I wonder why I even reply to clueless individuals making posts like this one I’m replying to.
Since all this is started I’ve probably worn my mask a dozen times in 2 years and I’m out everyday shopping eating and whatnot. I always enter a establishment with no mask on, it’s up to that establishment to tell me to either put it on or leave and that very very rarely happens.

this_that January 6, 2022 - 12:57 PM - 12:57 PM

Completely agree with what you’re saying. Just observing what I’ve seen around here.

Chris January 5, 2022 - 6:56 PM - 6:56 PM

So the Bay area has one of the highest vaxx rates and now the mask mandate is extended. Hmmm…Hospitalization rates are increasing… I guess the Health Nazis realize that by monthly extensions it will prevent the peasants from storming the Dept. of Public Health building. Expect the masks to be lifted early November. Maybe joe will send us a test kit.

What are we doing here people? Still with the masks? As someone that is fully vaxed and lean slightly more to the left, I’d have to say this is getting ridiculous ! Enough is enough !

LL Cool J January 6, 2022 - 10:18 AM - 10:18 AM

High “vaccination” rate = high “Omicron” rate.

Note 1: it is not a vaccination, hence the quotations marks.
Note 2: Omicron scrambled spelled moronic.

Good Luck!!

Word on the street is that the NFL already has a plan to move the Super Bowl from LA to Texas if there are too many Communist Chinese Virus Mandates. With this announcement I’m guessing the NFL has no choice… California loses again!
