A 70-year-old Nevada man has been charged with murder for the killing of a 5-year-old girl in Seaside 40 years ago, according to the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office.
Robert Lanoue, a Reno resident, is accused of killing Anne Pham, who disappeared while walking to her kindergarten class at Highland Elementary School on Jan. 21, 1982, and was found dead two days later at the former Ford Ord, prosecutors said Thursday.
The District Attorney’s Office’s cold case task force reopened the case in 2020 in collaboration with Seaside police and submitted evidence for a type of DNA testing that was not available to earlier investigators, and Lanoue, who was 29 and living in Seaside at the time of the killing, was identified as the suspect.
Authorities obtained a warrant on Wednesday for Lanoue’s arrest. He is being held in custody in Nevada pending extradition to California, where he will be charged with first-degree murder with special circumstance allegations that he killed her while committing kidnapping and a lewd act on a child under 14 years old, prosecutors said.

Yes, science is wonderful. Especially the DNA testing, and life-saving discoveries! But other things scientists have come up with, ‘conflict’ with each other (like all the covid confusion) …and ‘science’ can be used evilly as the Nazis did. Anyway in this case, hurray!

Newsom is a strange guy.
He seems pro-criminal across the board. Yet he regularly denies parole for anyone affiliated with Charles Manson, regardless of their in-prison conduct (earning college degrees etc.). Jerry Brown was the same way. One of the people who writes big checks must have told them, no Manson people, ever will get parole. And like the purchased Governors they are, Jerry and Gavin said, “ No problem, let us know if there are others on your list boss.”
I’m no fan of the Manson people, it’s just ironic that two Governors with such an affinity for criminals are behaving in this manner. Obviously money is involved.
@The Fearless Spectator- 100% agree! The Manson family killed Hollywood socialites and wealthy people which is why both Brown and Newsom make are sure to not upset their financial backers.
Hopefully, authorities will check his DNA against other cold cases and retrace his past forty years for other unsolved cases.
This is a situation when you could argue that he is now 70 years old and a trial and followed by a life sentence isn’t absolutely necessary…..Just exterminate him right here and right now.
That will not really provide closure or justice for the girl’s family but it would certainly be going a long way toward giving this monster what he deserves. Sick son of a #$%$@
